Not us, thank The Lord. We love our grandchildren dearly, but I want to be their grandparent not their parent. A whole different role. But if we had to take on that role we would do without a second thought.

The DH and I helped raise our 9 year old grandson until he was 4 while our daughter completed her masters and then med school. I wouldn't trade those for years in for anything. I love all 3 grandchildren however Landon will always hold a special place my heart. When they moved it was a sweet and sour experience. The daughter moving out was timely but Landon leaving was a heartbreaking. However we soon got used to it and we soon became acclimated to being "normal" grandparents. But I can tell you now that if for any reason they could not be with their parents...they would be with us!

I think it was Mark Twain who said "Grandkids are your reward for not killing your own kids." I hope it never comes to the point where I have to raise mine, but I would do it.

Grandkids were great and still are but those great grandkids seem to have an unusual batch of energy that taxes this older guy. I do love them but then I also really appreciate the peace and quiet when they leave. Wouldn't trade these for the world. I have nothing but extreme admiration for those who do take in the Grandkids (or great grandkids) and raise them.

Yep, started with two, the oldest has moved out now and the youngest (now 14) just got his schedule to start high school. Have had them since 2008 when my step daughter died due to a blood clot.

Not us - we kept our oldest grand daughter for a while when our daughter was going for chemo and radiation. Short term though.
Have friends that raised 4 grand children.
I have to take my hat off to any of you who step up to take on that responsibility. It demonstrates what family is all about.

We have been off and on for the last four years. Our daughter and her boyfriend got busted for growing pot. Our grand daughter was 5 and went to a foster home for a week until we could get 'approved' to have her. Been lots of up's and downs in the last 4 years, but hopefully our daughter finally has gotten her $hit together for good and we can just be grandparents. Today is the 4 year anniversary of the $hit hitting the fan!

We have good friends who are raising their grandson. They've had him since he was 2, and he is now 9. I've often said there's a reason we don't have them at our age. It is exhausting. I've told both of my boys I'm not raising any grandkids to get a message across to keep their lives in a good place, but, of course, if the need were to arise, I would do it and adjust.
God bless you bulldog2 and all the others who've stepped up.

We are not raising our grandkids but have babysat all three of them since they were 2 months old. We have a 5 year old and two 2 year olds that are two weeks apart(all three boys). Like said before we love them dearly but we really didn't retire to babysit 5 days a week for free. So it's almost like raising them as we do more with them than our kids are able to. We are trying to help out our kids as daycare is so expensive, but I told my wife we need to move out of state to get a break. But we are really to attached to the 5 year old and I don't know what we would do if we didn't see him. He spends the night at least once or twice a week. The two year olds can spend the night too but they're too young to know the difference, so they don't ask. We created our own animal but when it comes down to it we wouldn't do it any other way. Now that we have the MH we "schedule" our trips so the parents can find other ways to care for them while we are gone.
