Why gripe on the internet when you can get a thousand eyeballs a day?

On a back dirt road, somewhere in rural Webster county, WV., we were lost. We had just crossed a stream and headed up a steep hill. At the top of the hill, this sign appeared.... SLOW, DUMB DOG ZONE. Bob

I once read about a sign (I think it might have been in the Reader's Digest) that was posted at an unguarded railroad crossing. It read:

If it's a tie, you lose.

I haven't seen this with my own eyes but I am told it did exist!

"Bridge Out: Slow to 60!"

When I was young on the way to Granny's house there was a sign that said "Welcome to Sweetwater, TX home of 4,687 wonderful people... and a few old soreheads".

Not a road sign, but this one reminded me of a neighbor of my Aunt Este's(my Grandpa's sister, really) in Hacker Valley, WV. - just off the main highway on a dirt road just before Jerry's Run. Hardley had a huge mail box you could stuff a good sized pig in and it was always very clean and always open. It was bright white with large green letters proclaiming his first and last name...HARDLEY ABLE. His parents must have been a HOOT!

When I was six or seven, Mr. Able died while we were visiting my Aunt and she made me go to his funeral. At the end of the service, we had to view the body (my first funeral) and he was just lay'n there, with a green suit with white pinstripes(almost matched his house and mailbox) and he had this funny grin of his face. He also had this big scaly mole on his rather large pointy nose and they had left 3 long hairs that had grown out of it and I swear they were at least an inch long. With him laying there on his back, those hairs had a 'palm frond' effect and I don't know why, but I thought it was all pretty funny...my Aunt did not. It didn't take her very long to escort me out of the church by my left ear and my feet barely touching the floor. It hurt so bad I wet my pants. Although she made some GOOD biscuits, I didn't like her much after that. She always smelled like old cheese anyway...Sorry for the flash back. Bob

One of our all time favorites seen on back road south of Msp, Minn:
"Joe's Taxidermy and Cheese Shop" and Joe's Hot Nuts in very close proximity !

Then there was the sign on Hwy 12 near White's Pass, Wash that stated:
"ROUGH ROAD AHEAD USE CAUTION" and 30 ft away the road itself was gone, wiped out by a boulder the size of large 8 story bank building. Even more intimadating was the fact the Road, as they call Hwy 12, was in the middle of a 3000 ft cliffside ! Made it seem like you could actually call the Mother-In-Law to apoligize for ducking out on her sooo many times on your freefall to the bottom !!!
