It seems a million miles would do it alright. Let's hope anyway.

That does remind me of the Colorado signs we used to see which said something like:

Littering is unlAWFUL

Does anyone know if they still use those signs?

And saddlecreek, there is a sign near our abode which says:

Run-a-Way Truck Ramp Left

We've always wondered where it went and just why it left.
That means that if a Semi-tractor trailer loses their brakes ( from over use) while going down a hill, they have an alternative to an accident that could cost the drivers life and whomever should be in the way. (left means it is on the left side of the highway) If you look at the ramp you will notice that it is usually sand that is very deep and it has an incline to stop the rig. But, you will get towed out and you will get a ticket for failure to control your vehicle.
Hope this enlightens you on this sign.

Oh, maybe I was trying to be too funny there.

Truth is, I'm a CDL holder with both an X endorsement and a tanker endorsement. My day job - which I do at night - has me running up and down the highways and byways quite a bit. While Hubby (whose truck runs during the day) and I used to run cross country we have "settled down" and both of us drive fuel tankers for a company which owns almost 200 C-stores. The company we drive for is owned by the cousins of Jay Call who was the original owner of the Flying J empire.

We know about the truck ramps and feel blessed we have never found need to use one. You are also right about the fact that the one I was writing about is to the left of the particular road it is located on. It is a poor solution to a potentially bad situation.

I've seen several trucks in that particular ramp and even more in the run-a-way ramp located between Kingman, AZ and Laughlin, NV. Sorry if I made you think I didn't understand what a run-a-way ramp was. I've been blond before but not this month.

Thanks so much for joining in on the fun.

Check it out! Now, powerboatr, are you going to fight me for that job? That is just what I've been looking for. But, maybe I could hold out for $7000 HR. What do you think?

I am also a CDL holder, with a million miles safe driving (prior to meeting my husband) Hubby has been driving since 1974, and now does heavy haul, 12 axle, (48 + Canada) and yes, I 'assumed' that you were not aware of what the sign meant. Would never have thought a driver would ever find this sign to be "funny" Maybe a poor solution, but it is a solution.
BTW, I gave the road up, no patience to sit in one spot for very long, so when the hubby decided to do heavy haul, I came home. I got a job 'dispatching' fuel haulers locally. But thankfully, now I am truly retired.. or maybe just tired.
I keep my CDL current ,, hubbie feels that I may have to come and get the truck one day. Hopefully not but we never know what tomorrow brings so yes we do need a little humor on a daily basis..
Have a blessed day, and a safe thought always.

Mine is a variation of one already mentioned. Every time I see the signs saying "Speed Enforced by Aircraft" I envision an F16 launching a sidewinder at a speeding car. My sick imagination is a constant source of joy.

On the runaway truck ramp topic... on Interstate 8 between San Diego and Yuma, I remember seeing a little Honda Civic burried up to his doors after apparently mistaking a runaway ramp for a rest area!

RE: Speed enforced by aircraft

I was traveling in Va one day and yes, I was a 'little' over the speed limit, when suddenly a plane swooped down across the freeway , well I really was slowing down expecting a cruiser around the corner waiting to stop me. Then I realized it was a crop duster. Made me slow down for a bit anyway..
Cheers !
