Next to US-131 in Grand Rapids there was a greasy spoon restaurant that had its name in bold letters: "Terminal Cafe". Probably didn't have many repeat customers!

You guys and gals have made my morning. After being gone for a few days I came back to find all the new signs and descriptions. The entire family has been treated to your great posts. Thanks for sharing your signs and the fun!

There was an interesting sign story in the UK Daily telegraph a few weeks back.

In the Welsh city of Swansea, residents in a particular neighborhood were concerned about heavy trucks using their streets to get to a newly opened indusrtial area. The city council agreed to put up a sign at the entrance to the neighborhood to tell truck drivers it was not an acceptable route.

The signage people made up the wording of the sign in English and, since all road signs have to be in both English and Welsh, sent it by e-mail to a Welsh langauge specialist for the Welsh translation.
They got a very prompt response, added the Welsh text to the work order, had the sign made and installed.

The next day someone called and said "Do you know what the Welsh language on that new sign actually says?" The signage department was a bit chagrined to find that the Welsh part of the sign said "I'm away from the office this week. I'll answer your e-mail when I return."

Hey okgc glad you enjoyed the Climax sign on 94. That's where I live.
the next time you're in the area if you get off the highway at that exit (88)
go south about a mile to MN Ave and turn east you can stay at Coldbrook County Park -- electric and water hookups.
then you could take five minutes to drive through the big village.
It's a Nice peaceful area.

Here in NC we have three lovely towns with unique names....
Climax. I have heard that this is a ''fun place to live''
Ramsewer.... I understand that they never have their septic system stop up.
Saxapahaw.... I have been told that this is an Indian word but I aint sure what it means.

Hug a vet....

I figure this is the idea of a ranger who comes from a part of the country with real mountains

Love the thread!

When we lived in Hampton, Va., there was a local greasy spon that had a sign in the window, in three levels of window panes that read:

EAT DIRT
CHEAP AT
DICK'S

The windows weren't wide enough to put "cheap" on the same line as "dirt".

I don't think it was FDOT that put up the sign - I think it was the 'gators.

Great photo!

This whole thread is a lot of fun. Thanks to BacktoRoots for starting it and to all who have participated.
