Great Roadside Signs You Have Seen

It seems to me that it would be fun to share Roadside signs we have seen that trigger the funny button or make us go, “Huh?”

I’ll put in a few we have noticed. Please share your favorites too.

Since neither Hubby nor I remembered to journal the location of this first sign I will just say it was somewhere near the East Coast. The top sign on the post read:

Freeway Ends 1 Mile

The second sign (on the same post) read:

Watch for Stopped Traffic

We were sure hoping they would finish the Freeway soon - this could get hectic.

Another we liked was a sign on an interstate highway in Texas near a prison which read:

Don’t Stop for Hitchhikers
May be Escaping Prisoners

Uh, excuse me sirs. But it seems to me that if a former prisoner is hitchhiking he has already escaped. Just a thought.

How about this one we have noticed in several different states?

Speed Controlled by Aircraft

Now what kind of picture does that bring to mind? I see giant magnets dangling beneath airplanes which latch on to wayward speeding autos, trucks and RVs while the officer inside (using a megaphone) says, “We told you to slow down, now DO IT!”

Here is one we have noticed in our wonderful state of Arizona:

Watch for Wildlife
Next 140 Miles

Whoo-hoo! How about keeping me on pins and needles for the next 140 miles. I was tempted to speed through those 140 miles just so I could relax for a bit.

Well, that is enough from me. Will you please share your Roadside Sign Finds?

While traveling across Texas years ago a group of signs I enjoyed were;
The stars at night
are big
and bright
right here

Have fun!

We think our favorite still is the one near Little Rock announcing the area called....

"TOAD SUCK, ARKANSAS"

Gotta wonder about the history behind THAT name.

Guess it's really a town!!

"Will those who hate speeding tickets please raise your right foot" is one of my favourites.

There's a sign, on the right side of I-75, Northbound, near Ocala, FL, that I chuckle at every time I pass by. It says "FIREWORKS RIGHT UNDER BRIDGE" . Now, that's a good place to store fireworks. Roland

Here is a picture of our favorite. Did a double take and then had to go back and take a picture. "Martha, I thought when we came to the ocean there would be water!!" This is on the Washington coast south of West Port, near Twin Harbors State Park.

I kind of like the one that says "Cruise ships exit here". And I've not yet seen a cruise ship on the freeway. Used to see that sign on I-5 in San Diego years ago. I have no idea if it's still there.

Brits would consider the following to be rude, so if the moderators want to delete it that's OK.

There used to be a Washington DOT freeway sign on I-206 listing food vendors at the next exit. One restuarant was called "Wanker's Corner" and there's a shopping center there with the same name.

Talking

You folks are great. Most of these are new to us, although we have seen Toad Suck, Arkansas. The whole family is still laughing over these great examples. We are especially enamored with the beach which has NO WATER. We're with you and Martha concerning why we went to the ocean in the first place. LOL

And saddlecreek, there is a sign near our abode which says:

Run-a-Way Truck Ramp Left

We've always wondered where it went and just why it left.

This safety reminder is frequently seen on Pennsylvania highways.
