I believe that Bechtel was more than capable, but the Cheney/Bush crowd could not get past Steve Bechtel. Since Cheney controlled Haliburton prior to his current position it seemed ok not to have bids. What a coincidence. Brown and Root got the job during the Clinton era as the lower bidder of 4 companies that were offered the bid.

It appears that you are under the mis-impression that all Govt contracts must be redone at the start of every new Presdidential administration.

I believe that I repeated twice that the contract was done during the Clinton Administration. This contract was still in effect when Bush was elected.

Even if half of your own and others' allegations about the contract were true, it would deprive our soldiers of essential support to now fire Halliburton in mid-contract, issue Requests for Proposals, take bids and negotiate a new contract - normally a multi-year process.

But many have been doing their best to erode support for our troops the whole way through, but becoming instant patriots when in the glare of campaign limelight.

No one has said to fire Halibyrton and then go out with RFQs. Obviously the ensuing gap would be unacceptable. But, what is wrong with going out for RFQs while the existing contract is still in effect.

In fact that is probably what should have happened once criminal charges were determined. I mean come on we are paying KBR more tons of money after these charges were brought.

I frankly could care less which administration initiated the contracts-is there any reason why our tax dollars can't be better spent now? Ken...

I didn't know anyone had been indicted. What court are these "criminal charges" filed in? Is it a city, county, state or federal court?

Unless there are actually charges filed I consider the accusation of criminal charges to be libelous hate mongering?

I have better things to do than to associate with people that do this sort of thing.

Well, actually, the Just Conversation forum was opened for non-RV-related discussions. The following is from its main page description:
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">This is a forum for friendly, professional, informal exchange of NON-RV related subjects. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I find all this faith in Haliburton facinating. Let me ask you question.

Let say you own business. You contract with a company to suppy you with parts. You don't ask for a bid from anyones else because your uncle was once the CEO of the suppy company.

When you get your first invoices you find that your supply company is billing you for parts at 5 times or more what they should cost from anyone else. Then you find out they are also billing you for Billions of dollars for product or services they didn't perform.

What would you do?

A. Do an investigation of the over charges, validate that they are true, and then pay them the entire amount anyway. Then enter into more contracts with them without a bid from other contractors.

B. Validate the charges that were fraudulent. Then only pay for the valid charges even though the cost is several times what you could get from others.

C. Pay what you have to under contract then do no futher business with this company.

The way I see government it's like a big business. We are all stock holders. We elect a board of directors (president and congress) to represent us and direct the operations of the business. Our government choose option A. Could that be the reason we have to borrow so much money to stay in business?
