Seems like a whole lot of would be doctors out there.........determining ones disability, IMHO, should be left to a certified MD. As said before, you don't necessarily have to look disabled to be disabled.

I would be happy to simulate the burning pain my legs as a result of advanced Peripheral Artery Disease.

I do believe they would understand the need for a handicapped tag then.

I agree someone leaving a note on my truck they better hope they leave before me I have had note on my truck twice before the only reason they didn't find out what my disability was is that my wife is the voice of reason .....

I have a lot patients who do not look handicapped but try putting them out in a parking lot and they won't make it inside. Handicaps are not always obvious.

Unfortunately, people often question the innocent ones instead of the guilty ones. Guy who questioned me once (I had my Mom inside and took her groceries out and went back in for her) had to eat his words and I was not very polite about it either.
He was parked in a space that was not a space because I was in the first handicap space. Told him he needed to move and keep it shut.

Please let me repeat that I started this thread because of someone we know that does not have a mobility restriction at all, that consistently abuses her tag. Her husband uses it also and he has none either. I would never question anyone in a handicap spot for just the reasons mentioned. Even if they did cartwheels into the store.

She had surgery for a rotator cuff injury. That was I don't know how long ago. Told another friend that it hurt carrying grocery bags to the car. Now she scuba dives often, parasails and bikes for miles but takes the closest space to the store or anywhere else she goes. Same goes when hubby is driving. She even posts these adventures on Facebook.

How you get a tag from a shoulder injury I'm not sure but it doesn't slow her down from sports activities. Most grocery stores are happy to have someone help you to the car with groceries. Then how does she get them in the house.

I have a righteous handicapped tag. Severe PAD and cannot walk more than 50 feet or stand more than one minute without real pain.

Ironically, we often park out and away from the handicapped spots in order to have to room to unload my mobility cart. My wife has to walk further, but all I have to do is push the "forward" button a few seconds more.

My response will probably not be very popular. My father had PSP a disabling neurological disease. When my Mom and I took my Dad out for the day or to the doctors we very seldom parked in a handicapped space as we were very capable of walking and pushing his wheelchair from anywhere in the parking lot. If you are the driver and you are handicapped then by all means use the designated spaces. But if the handicapped individual is the passenger get dropped off at the door and save the space for someone who needs it. My father in law during inclement weather always drops my mother in law off at the entrance and then parks and pushes the wheelchair or her mobility scooter to her. Of course the are always extenuating circumstances but it really annoys me when I see people abusing the privilege. Pay it forward and let someone else have the space who really needs it.

I don't see any problem with that thinking. I don't mind dropping DW off at the door when it is raining and neither one of us has any handicap. She rarely takes me up on the offer though. That is one of the things that really irks me about the woman we know abusing her tag. It is bad enough she uses it all of the time but when her husband drives he does too.

To me, it is all common courtesy , I always park a bit further away because I think there is always someone that could utilize it better than me. That's how my Mother raised me.
