Have You Ever.....?

Have you ever been banned/thrown off of a RV forum? Seems I was banned because I disagreed with one of the moderators.

I have never been banned from any forum. But I tend to mind my manners and try not to get caught up in arguments... no matter how right I am. lol

If it was the one run by Camping World, I left there a year ago because of the uneven and often heavy handed moderating. The Moderators let their personal feelings and friendships interfere with proper judgement. I simply told the moderator in a PM that he was wrong and where he could politley put a certain part of his anatomy. Never banned, but felt that they needed to ban certain moderators.

Speaking of moderators.....

I think this discussion is fine if it remains generic in nature but I have to remind everyone that discussing iRV2 moderator action is a violation of our rules.

Please just keep it general and not get into details of specific cases here on iRV2.

Thanks for your help.

Whoops, can't talk about RickO, he found us.

Rick, I know well the issues of talking about moderator actions here. As always, the mod and admin team here does a good job of keeping things down to a dull roar.

I think the actions of the mod team leads the path for a good forum.

That's a loaded question.

Kinda like the police advertising that the crooks won a prize and to come pick it up only to get busted. LOL

Oh.....I've never been banned.

You can run but you can't hide!

As you know Ken, most of our rules come from experience with what works and what doesn't. The no discussion of moderator action rule comes from our desire to not have specific cases end up being debated in the court of public opinion.

Long before I became a mod, I started a thread almost exactly like this one because I just didn't understand how all of this stuff worked. It's a good discussion.

Some moderators loose the run of themselves when they get a sniff of authority.

I'm a "mod" on several sites and beside intercepting the trolls, spammers and guys cussin at each other, its a pretty boring & thankless job... I stick to guidlines pretty much and would say I'm a fair moderator.

One of the forums I frequent, I am NOT a moderator, but I do get a good laugh at the "heavy handed" actions of the mods there. Its a motorcycle forum and they'll throw you in the cooler for two days for merely mentioning the word "car"... as cars are percieved to be the enemy of the motorcycle....

They have a lot of fun infracting the newbies AND long-timers for a host of other misdemeanors, but its ALL light hearted... Some newbs get all het up over being incarcerated, but in general, if they have thick skin, they fit in just fine... and posting a few pics of bare chested ladies usually gets the "out of jail" card...

Hell, one time I got put in the slammer for talking about my favourite bottle of wine. I was told bikers should only drink beer n' liquer..

Some mignt see that as overbearing... other see it as a bit of fun to while the day away...

and then there are simply a-hole moderators just plain bullying for their own amusement...

And yeah, its a global rule... moderators actions are NOT up for discussion...

Personally, I agree it would be a difficult and thankless job.
There is a line you have to draw on what is or isn't acceptable.

Everybody's line is different.

I think as a whole, the moderators here do a good job.

Maybe!
And Rick, that is why I tried my darnedest to keep this discussion generic in nature. Don't want to get thrown off of another forum run by the same group. LOL

Most of the time, the moderating can get pretty boring. But every once in a while you will get a person that thrives on trouble. While on the mod and admin team here, I was involved in a few suspension of members and the out right banning of a couple.

Some people just can't pass up a good pissin' contest and they won't take to being told they are wrong. So to prove their point, they will take their punishment public to try and win some sympathy. This is 100% the wrong route and can result in an immediate ban on the site. If you have a beef with a moderator, take it off line in a PM (private message). Any of the moderators will expalin their actions and the rules off line for anything that is questionable.

One thing you can do before making a post that you know may be questionable is to PM the moderators and ask for their guidenance on something before you post.

Again, a consistent and even moderation on the forum will eventually lead to a good bunch of folks on the forum. iRV2 members are the greatest and help to make the moderation job easier.

Thank's and high five's to Irv2 moderators. IMO there is a fine line the moderators must walk to keep this forum above other similar interest minded RV forum's. I have seen some of the "locked post". And feel the OP's rights were tolerated. There ability to get their point across was allowed until the discussion became abusive or counter productive. For this reason we are contributors to IRV2 and will continue to enjoy and learn from a great group of fellow RV'ers.
