Here comes Sandy's winds to RI

We're starting to feel Sandy's winds here in RI. We've been sleeping in the motorhome the past few weeks as we're remodeling the inside of the house and it's really not in liveable condition - although its close (finally!). Early this morning, around 7/8am I could hear the wind starting to come through the trees along with some minor pelting rain - we're just now starting to get some gusts that we can feel in the motorhome.

Here's where we currently are in relation to the coast (marker A).

The house here is about 3 blocks from the bay and the winds are starting to pick up. We have the motorhome tucked up as close to the house as we can get, 4x4 plywood pads under the tires and jacks. We've got about 3/4 of a tank of fuel in case we need to run the generator for the motorhome and/or items in the house.

We're hanging out in the motorhome for now, watching the news and making some lunch. We'll likely have to put the antenna down soon and rely on webcast news once we do, as there's no cable TV/Internet connection at the house. After lunch, I'll be heading back in the house to do some more painting, cleaning, etc ...

And yes, if the winds get too bad while we're in the motorhome and there's too much rockin', we'll be certain to head into the house.

Thanks ... from Sandy's track, we'll likely see more damage in our hometown of Southbury, CT - about 150 miles west and inland of where we are right now.

Family at "home" is as prepared as they can be. Pulled in all the lawn furniture, prepped the portable generator, stocked up on fuel and water. Luckily enough during Irene last year we didn't lose power at our home in CT until about a week after while CL&P disconnected power in our area to fix downed lines.

2LABS,
Try receiving the TV Broadcast with the antenna down. You'd be surprised, especially if you are relatively close to the transmitting tower. Hopefully the broadcasting stations will have emergency power also.

Stay safe.

So sandy has been mostly FrankenFizzle here in warwick, RI. We got a little rain, some wind ... but nothing really more than your high average storm.

I know that communities south of us have more damage, but from the news reports here you would think it was hurricane Carol and 1938 all over again .. not even close!

A Karen B*** and her husband ignored the mandatory evacuation of Fire Island (Long Island). She's been calling into various media reporting the water levels. There is a 10 foot surge of water heading her way within the hour.

I hope they make it. Maybe think about getting their moron chips re-calibrated.
