BTW, since when was propylene glycol any relative of the maple??? Maple flavor (!) bacon smells wonderful, but tastes nothing like it. Gyuccch!!!

Moral to self: READ the (Black) label before buying. Buyer watch the heck out!

Hey. Where's the Bacon

Thought I'd contribute a recent cook to this thread. Granted, this was done in a smoker, not our RV, but I know some folks who bring a small smoker with them so...

This is called a "Fattie," and I cooked it for breakfast over the weekend since I already had the smoker going all night with a pulled pork. Fattie's are essentially a rolled up log-o-goodness that you can fill with anything. The basic recipe consists of a 1lb tube of breakfast sausage flattened out in a 1gal. Ziplock bag. Mine used turkey sausage. Then you fill with whatever you like, and this one was for breakfast, so I filled it with scrambled eggs, potatoes, sautéed peppers, onions, mushrooms, and some cheese.

These things will "blow out" unless you have the magic final ingredient....bacon! I did a bacon weave, and this time I used half turkey bacon and half regular. Here are a few pics of the build, and then the final product.

Usually put the shucks on the grill or eat em right out the shell.... but may see what happens if you put some in the smoker - low and slow... over the drip pan of course.

Lol. You actually have me thinking now!!

I made jalapeño peppers stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon in the smoker too. The smoke formed a thin brown film on the cream cheese that was delicious, and because it cooked slowly, none of the cream cheese oozed out.

Maybe next time I'll put some "shucks" on there too!!

Cream Cheese with a smoke ring. There's an idea who's time has come... might go nicely with bacon, lox and bagels and a Bloody Mary once the fire starts and while waiting for the smoke to commence.
