Hi everybody am a new member

Not sure I know what I'm doing yet, but I have a question I just purchased my first RV I'm planning on taking a trip from New Jersey to North Myrtle Beach I'm taking my mother of 94 years to see her son who she hasn't seen in over 10 years there will be five of us on this trip. Here's my question, I don't know how much water I should carry in my fresh water tank in case we use the bathroom while driving. I would appreciate any and all the advice you guys can give me

Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined us!

We keep our freshwater tank full when traveling. You can always empty it when you're done!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

fill her up then you don't have to worry! It wouldn't change the gas mileage by much anyway if it were empty.

Bill;

I would like to welcome you to iRV2. We are pleased you joined us. Browse the forums that interest you and don't be afraid to ask questions. When I travel I fill the tank 2/3 full in case I have to accept a site with out water. If I am going to be dry camping I will fill it up. You did not state what type of RV you purchased. I would suggest you add to your signature the type of RV you purchased so our members can better answer your future questions. You will not receive much response in this forum. In the future I suggest you post questions you have in a forum that more relates to your type of RV. We have a forum for Class A, Class C, Trailers, and 5th wheels as well as several brand specific. Enjoy the forums.

Don

I usually fill my tank about halfway when we're traveling. Like MSHappyCamper said, you can always empty what you don't use.

Full Fresh Water tank while traveling. Then I know I have good water for drinking.

Sounds like a wonderful trip for a great reason. Fill the tank and dump when you need to, then refill at the same time. Because RVs are happy at about 63 to 65 mph, and add in the normal delays, I hope you are planning two days for your trip. I doubt if you will use all of your water if all you are doing is bathroom needs. Walmart is a popular place for RVers to overnight. You can check in with the manager if you wish.

Safe travels and many happy trails.

Glad to have you here with us.

Like most others I carry my tank full. I know the quality of the water where I'm filling up. The difference in weight will not affect your handling or your mpg.

Best of luck on your trip and Happy Trails!!

Welcome Aboard!

We always fill our fresh water tank before leaving home, too. We consider it the most trusted water source we will have on the trip!

Have fun!
