Hope and Cagney for nastalgia and dance lovers

You know what's really stunning about this? Neither of these guys became famous for dancing. Hope was, for a time, America's Comedian. And James Cagney was a great actor, one of the biggest movie stars of his era. But watching this clip, it's easy to

But they both came up through Vaudeville and that's what makes the difference!
Todays Actors and Actresses really can't light a candle to what these guys could do!

Cagney is my all time favorite actor, except for his Westerns I would never miss one of his pictures...........

White Heat, Angels with Dirty Faces, Yankee Doodle Dandy, Gallant Hours, Man of a Thousand Faces, Bride Came COD, Captains of the Clouds, 13 Rue Madeleine, What Price Glory, Mr. Roberts, The Fighting 69th, Here Comes the Navy, To name a few of some of if not the best movies made.
This Garbage they make today would and is probably making the true Movie stars roll around in their graves.

I would have to agree with that,,, Cagney just never was a Cowboy, a Gangster yes, cowboy no.
I grew up watching those guys and they are still afternoon nap fodder for me on the couch in the coach!

Boy did you hit that on the nail head......Mr. Roberts was on the other day and I recorded it on the DVR, Earlier today I was watching it. Went to sleep about the time Ward Bond almost had his eyes fall out looking at the nurses.

Woke up when Ensign Pulver was yelling at Cagney It is eye Ensign Pulver and I just threw your stinking palm tree overboard now what is this crud no movie tonight!

Mr. Roberts is one of my favorites, but Angels with Dirty Faces is my all time favorite Cagney picture! Especialy at the end with him getting the chair and Pat O'Brian saying the prayer, rips me up everytime!

Earlier tonight my wife and I were in a local diner for a qiuck bite to eat and at the counter they had a tv on showing what I like to call Dancing with the Dips****, anyway I'd like to put Cagney,Hope, Kelly and Astere up there and see what those judges would have to say! Those wannabeees couldn't light a candle!

Isn't that the truth..... I won't say anymore I get in big trouble if I voiced my opinion about what they call "Family Entertainment" on TV today as compared when I was a kid.

Back then an entertainer needed talent to just survive. Multi-talented Kelly, Astair, Gleason, Martin, Cagney, Hope, Crosby and certainly one of the best, Sammy Davis, Jr. were entertainers. They could sing, dance, act and and be comics.

I can't think of a single person today that can do all those things and darn few that are good at any one of them.

But, getting back to Cagney, he played the movie role of an older, 1-armed, Rancher. The best line in it was one I use today and it went something like this: "I'm an old, 1-armed fat man. So I fight dirty".

Does anybody remember the title of the movie?

Thanks.

I just googled 'Tribute to a Bad Man' and see no mention of his having 1 arm in the reviews. So I googled all 3 of his westerns. To no avail.

Maybe I have the wrong guy (it wasn't the Spencer Tracy movie 'Bad day at Black Rock').

Regardless, I was addicted to 'Then came Bronson' and remember the guy in the car saying "I wish I was you".

I watched Bad Day at Black Rock today and either I missed that quote or was checking for light leaks on my eyelids

So maybe it wasn't said by Spencer Tracy in this movie.
