This has bugged me for a while. Has anyone else grown tired of being "forced" into an involuntary photo of yourself and your loved one just to gain entry into some tourist attraction? Since the inception of digital photo cameras (which I dearly love) it seems that every tourist attraction on gods green earth want to force you to stand for a "hostage photo" before you are admitted to the attraction which you paid MONEY to get in to.

It has gotten worse since I we have started to fulltime. Some photographers have gotten irate with us, because the DW and I have reached the tipping point and refuse to participate. Some have insisted that we HAVE to get our picture taken or we can not get in. I politely and firmly refuse, but to be argued with that it is for "identification" in case of emergency

I understand that it is often a business opportunity for some people, but no means no. I had one place in Nashville TN go so far as to yell to the photographer as we walked by "TAKE IT AS THEY WALK BY!"

It seems that personal privacy rights have been trashed by these schemes and I for one will not stand for it. Maybe I'm just getting cranky in my old age, but I don't care. I still have some rights in this country, and I'm not ready to give em' up.......

I hope you are not planning on being anywhere near Washington, DC on January 20!

You're right, they are a PITA. I just tell them I'm in the witness protection program and keep moving.

Where are you running into these places? We've never had our picture taken at any tourist attraction we've been to.

Hi Linda,
An example of picture taking are the shows at Myrtle Beach, SC, Branson, MO and Pigeon Forge, TN.

And several places in Nashville TN. And in Georgia as a few places as well. It has really became a fad. I understand being enterprising, but when they insist is when I get irratated.

And January 20th I am just going to unplug the TV and radio all together. Might as well prepare for the Socialist State early....

I've run into something like this at the Space Needle in Seattle, but we never pose for it, and they don't "insist."

Where in Pigeon Forge are you running into this? Course, my experience is a bit limited, since the only thing I ever visited in Pigeon Forge was Bennett's Barbacue.

Several places in Pigeon Forge. DollyWood, The Grinch Ice Display, The General Jackson Riverboat, even the Opryland hotel was trying to capture people. Some were more aggressive than others. The riverboat group and the ice display were particularly aggressive.

They also want you to "smile" when boarding the "Branson Belle" and before boarding the tram for the tour at the Johnson Space Center at Houston.

The only place we have ever run into this situation is Busch Gardens years ago in Tampa. I couldn't figure why they wanted to take our picture until I saw the folks lining up to give them $5 for the little magnifier viewer thing.
We don't usually go to things like ya'll mentioned now because Ms Carol has a hard time getting around so we haven't run into this in a while. What mechanism are they using to make the sale now?

The security thing is a lie that they often use. Unless they show you an identification from Homeland Security, it's a line on nonsense.
