How concerned ...

... are you real Floridians with this thing blowing off the coast. Is it a slow news day and they are hyping it, or is this something you are concerned about? This 'potential perfect storm' stuff I keep seeing is worrisome since I have friends and family headed to "The Swamp" in Jacksonville tomorrow for the Ga-Fla football game Saturday.

I'm in Palm Beach and it has been a non event do far. A little wind and rain. Tomorrow evening is supposed to be messy but I don't think it will be too bad. Not a direct hit or anything like it. I think the local wearthermen are excited cause its been a slow six or seven years here.

The perfect storm scenario appears to be aimed at the north east. Maps I've seen regarding Sandy's path have it skirting the south and mid atlantic but going inland up north. But you know the weatherman can be wrong....

It is liable to be windy and rainy in Jacksonville, but all indications are that the really nasty stuff will stay pretty far away from Florida. If it were me, I would find somewhere selling adult beverages with good television and watch from there, but if they go they should be ok.

Talking

At this point, the local news guy is saying just windy in Jax on Saturday.

By the way, the 'Swamp' is in Gainesville (FL). But if it does rain in Jax, maybe they'll temporarily rename Everbank Field for the occasion.

Danged if you aren't right! Old age and my obvious 'love' of the gators had me confused. Hope it is good weather. Florida spanked SC who spanked Georgia. Ought to be interesting. And I get to go to Birmingham and haul darn cars!!!

ON the other hand, ya gotta NOT let yourself be lulled to sleep by that 'ol "normalcy bias" - the denial state that assures you that since nothing like this has ever happened to you before - or HERE before - it surely WON'T happen THIS time, either...

That's what got many in New Orleans, the Jews in Hitler's Germany, etc...

Anybody in FL that remembers the 2004-05 hurricane seasons (not that long ago) isn't going to be lulled when there's a storm off the coast. Life goes on but we keep one ear to the weather radio.
