This morning my Keurig B40 single cup coffee maker gave up the ghost. It lasted all of 6 months from brand new. Prior to that I was using a Black & Decker single cup brewer. It lasted a little more than 6 months before it went south also.

Now, the Black & Decker didn't upset me. It was less than $20 on sale, so when it died I just tossed it. The Keurig however, is supposed to be state of the art. On sale it went for $107 and has been seen priced as high as $120+. I have always prided myself on being able to repair most of our appliances, but the Keurig is a different animal. It seems that it is not designed to be disassembled, much less repaired. I believe it is specifically designed to be thrown away and replaced with the new and improved version for another $120+.

So I ask you, how do you make your coffee?

I use a French coffee press. Mine is a 4 cup model from Starbucks. Works great and can not break, unless you drop it of course.

Did you register your Keurig brewer? They have EXCELLENT customer service. Last year when our brewer pump died, they shipped us a brand new machine and we did not have to return the old one...just threw it out. We would never be without our Keurig.

Back to the store with it, it must of come with a 1 year warranty right craig? At least it quit before 1 year was up.

The store probably won't take it back (unless it came from Costco

). However Keurig will honor the warranty if it was registered.

I used the Keurig now for about a year. Mighty expensive coffee I must say but it makes a pretty good cup, and they have you hooked. That's free enterprise at it's finest.
I have found mine requires frequent cleaning. The little pointed nozzel that punctures the pod becomes plugged and when it does will not allow water to flow. I take a cloth and wipe it a couple of times, then put some vinegar in the tank and run it through and let it sit with the vinegar in it for 30 minutes or so. Then run water through a few times to clean the vinegar and it is good to go for another how ever many months it takes to plug up again.

After falling for the high-priced coffee maker scam, I wised up, bought a $20 Mr. Coffee and never looked back. It's been going on 5 years now and every cup tastes as good as the first.
And I buy the coffee from Trader Joe's.

We have a Keurig at home and a Mr. Coffee on the coach. I want a Keurig for the coach but "She who must be obeyed" doesnt think it fits under the counter on the coach (even though I have measured the Keurig and explained that it WILL fit

). I like the Keurig because of all the different coffe's you can get. We tried the single cup model but you have to have to add the water every time and then wait for it to heat up and then wait for the element to spew the coffee into the cup. The bigger one has the reserviour and once filled you (and the two lites are on) the wait for a cup is quick. We found that Target seems to have the best prices on the Keurig cups (I think Costco might have a good price too but you godda buy the 80 cup package

). I also like the Keurig because it gives you instant hot water for tea, coco and whatever else you want it for.

We have had our Keurig for over a year now and have had no problems with it.

We like Hamilton Beach The Scoop. The wife likes her coffee real strong, I like mine normal. Uses regular coffee, 1 year so far happy.

We make ours with a 1950's Sunbeam Vacuum pot. You know the double pot type were it makes a vacuum in the bottom pot and draws the coffee through the grounds and a washable filter? Best coffee maker I have ever used-but it is not in the survey list so I can't vote.

I'm not sure if we registered it or not. What happened to yours sounds like what happened to ours. The machine finished it's cycle and the cup was still empty. Really confusing for someone who's really not awake yet at 6 AM.

We bought it at Fred Meyer's in Newport, OR last June. Unfortunately Fred Meyer doesn't have any stores in TX. I think Sarah's right. I need to talk to the Keurig folks.

I'm sure we have the receipt. Donna is a stickler for keeping receipts. I'll just have to dig it out. Then I'll register it like you suggest Sarah. I know it will be a bit late but I have nothing to lose. Thanks!

We buy the instant Starbucks individual tubes....Take the water from the insta-hot.
Less waste, no filters, cleaning etc...and is hard to beat!!

I have seen that advertised and wondered how it would work. It certainly would be more "cost effective" than k-cups.

IMHO the K-cup systems are primarily for people who are not serious coffee drinkers. My DW and I can easily finish a 10-cup pot from our Cuisinart drip unit before breakfast! Who wants to be using that many expensive K-cups or waiting before doing something as simple as pouring another cup? Our drip pot has a stainless steel thermal carafe so the brewed coffee isn't heated while waiting for us to drink it.
