Funny but too frequently true.

Related thought on this...
With all the relatively new clean-air rules and no smoking policy's in place it must be very awkward to be a smoker now-a-days.

Back in 59, after doing autopsies on adults and babies, and seeing the damaging effects of the adult smokers lungs, was enough to make me quit. Unfortunately that impression won't bother some people.

I quit last April. Since California raised the cigarette tax, making packs over $8.00 each and coming down with bronchitis, I quit.

Why let a good illness go to waste? It made it easier to quit.

Smoke? Tobacco? Never have; never will

My parents were chain-smokers. Turned me off to practice at a very early age. I consider myself fortunate (at 72) that I haven't yet succumbed to secondhand smoke.

I smoked from age 15 to age 26. Quit cold turkey, never looked back and don't miss it, ever. I'm 63 now. Still have a cough in the mornings.
My father smoked from age 12 or so until into his early 40's. In the end it still got him (age 82), he suffered with emphysema until he took his own life because he knew what was coming. He was a scientist and medical school professor and he knew what the end result would be.
No one should have to witness a loved one suffer such a horrible slow death.

Never have / never will

One bad habit I'm glad I never started. Of course I did try it in my early teens one time, that was enough to turn me against it.

It's hard for me to understand how one spouse could smoke and not the other.

Its pretty simple really. We both smoked when we were married and continued to do so for the next 30 years. I quit 10 years ago and she did not. I would like her to quit for health reasons but I'm not going to constantly bug her about it. I married her because I loved her and still do. Smoking has nothing to do with that fact. She doesn't smoke in the house or MH so I don't mind it at all. I usually need a potty break before she needs a smoke break anyway.

Smoking has a long history. Why I heard even Joan of Arc smoked . . .

Both my parents smoked heavily. Probably the reason I never did.
