How to spot someone who is drowning
Instinctive Drowning Response.)
I had no idea what to look for. Great info..

When I was young I was in a situation like this. Probably looked the same.
I had gone too far into deep water at a lake.
I was trying to get the life guard's attention, but he was ogling the bikini babes. Made me mad!
So I stopped struggling and held my breath and sank to the bottom. Then I walked out. Man, was I PO'd at that idiot! ;-)

Thank you for posting this.
A few years ago I a read an article about how to spot someone who is drowning. Not long after reading it we were vacationing at Walt Disney World and staying at Saratoga Springs. One afternoon I was at the pool, talking to my mom and watching my boys swim. Something didn't look right with my oldest son so I walked over to the pool and asked if he was ok. He didn't respond. He was bobbing there, water up to his chin & rising over his mouth and eyes wide opened looking straight at me. I yelled "SON ARE YOU OK" - no response so I jumped in fully clothed and dragged him out of the water.
There were five or six other people within arms reach of my son. None of them recognized the signs of a person drowning. He was only a few yards from the lifeguards chair, she didn't recognize the signs either.
A bit later he said to me "what took you so long, I was screaming for you". I said "honey you never said a word! I asked you over and over if you were ok and you said nothing." He said "mom I was screaming for you to help me." That part freaked me out the most. Poor kid thought he was screaming for help but no one was noticing him, it was like he was in shock.
Know the signs of drowning. It is incredibly important. Here is a link to the article I read just before my son almost drowned:

381 views so far. An occasional reply will keep this post current and will attract more viewers and the potential to save more drowning victims. Most of us are around water frequently as many CG's have a pool, lake or river.

In my younger years I was a certified black water rescue diver but was never taught this. Very interesting and informative.
