I post this video at the start of each camping season in the hope that it will help save someone from drowning. Please watch and pass on to others. Thanks

Great video.... thanks for sharing. Amazing how close other swimmers were and no one recognized that this person was "in extremis".

Good video. One point I remember from my lifeguard days, more than 50 years ago, is that when you approach a drowning victim, as much as possible approach from the rear. That will prevent you from getting smacked from a flailing arm. It also positions you well for a cross-chest carry.

It always amazes me when watching this clip that the person in distress looks like their just enjoying the water!

Contact with a potential drowning victim is not your first choice, try to give them flotation (ie: life jacket, boat fender, noodle, ring buoy, spare tire, etc.) Only if your only choice is to make contact then it's best from behind.
Know that making contact in deep water is a risk to you as well, especially if untrained and/or not used these rescue skills in some time.
In shallow water like a pool, etc. you may go under the victim, plant your feet on the bottom and push the victim by their legs to safety.
If you make contact and are being pushed under, do not fight it, go deeper and the victim will release and fight for the surface once again.
On another note: teach your kids/grands what to do in a rip current. My kids are 30 & 26, I still remind them when they leave for the beach or the islands....they roll their eyes but listen.
Very good video.
