I'm impressed by the eye of Dean!

CRAWFORD, Texas (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush on Saturday approved a pre-landfall emergency declaration for Texas to provide federal help if the state is hit by Hurricane Dean, White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said.

The emergency declaration, which was requested by the governor of Texas, allows the federal government to move in emergency personnel, equipment and supplies now in the event the state is struck by the storm, he said.

The Bush administration was sharply criticized for a slow federal government response to Hurricane Katrina, which devastated the Gulf Coast, including New Orleans, in August 2005.

I think Dean is going to stay out at sea and keep heading West, the eye passing to the south of Jamaica. I do believe unless some type or shear occurs that Dean will hit CAT5 status like it's forcasted to do before hitting into the Yucatan.

As long as the high pressure area stays over the SE USA, the steering currents will keep Dean pushed to the south. All of the models are still showing the high as stationary, so the track is to the south. If the high moves tot he north or east, the natural tendency is fro the storm to hook clockwise or to the north more.

We wish the best to all of the folks in the part of Dean.

It looks like from all the predictions that our Texas friends may have missed this one. Lord knows these folks need a break given that Erin just came through there. Following up Erin with Dean would have been a catastrophe. I'm sure that none of Erin impacted areas in Texas can use any more water on the scale of a hurricane.

Oklahoma is also a BIG mess and Dean would have probably drowned what's left most likely.
