Dryer's is pretty good. Bryer's sucks. They should be sued for using a sound-alike name and an inferior product.

Just after posting, our local NBC station reviewed local "Mom & Pop" ice cream shops. Guess I'll start with the DC Metro area.

Shiner Bock is awesome!

Now as far as ice cream goes, I have been to both the B&J plant in VT and the Blue Bell plant and I will agree that Blue Bell tastes better than B&J and I am a born and raised New Englander. However, DW and I make a practice of searching out local homemade ice cream and the hands down best we've come across is made in the little town of Buhl, Idaho at the Cloverleaf Creamery. Their ice cream is truly indescribably delicious.

Try Reed's Dairy in Idaho Falls, ID. The huckleberry is my favorite.

Our favorite use to be Thrifty ice cream, it's still good. Found Tillamook locally, our new favorite best test and very creamy.

Blue Bunny frozen yogurt is available at all Wal-Marts and it is great! I love the strawberry-banana. It's low-calorie, low cost, and tastes great!

Schwans has the best Ice cream by Far. Just pull over one of there sales trucks when you see one. The drivers make there money by commission. You won't be disappointed.
Actually all there products are superb!!
Just a customer,
Tim

I have two votes for best ice cream (type) shops, one from the east coast and one from the west so you can tell I don't discriminate.

San Francisco - Bombay Ice Creamery - The saffron ice cream is to die for but the the Rose and Ginger was sublime. They also serve Kulfi and Lassi so you can get your drink fixes there too.

Philadelphia - Capogiro Gellato - Pomegranate was heavenly and the pistachio was something to be experienced but you have to try the Thai Coconut Milk and you will never look at ice cream the same.

As far as store bought ice cream goes my personal favorite is Ciao Bella, try their Blackberry Cabernet you won't be disappointed.
