Recently I was shopping for a class A. I decided to keep my TT for now. Anyhow we looked at a Tsunami in Houston. It had been sold for about $100k but the dealer let us peek inside. A couple of weeks later my wife finds a Tsunami on the internet. Low miles. Great condition. Only $50k. I looked at the pics and it was the exact same pics from the dealer we had visited. The person gave a Houston phone number but something indicated the RV was in Austin. With my suspicions raging I call the number listed and leave a message. Then send the person an email asking for more info. They reply saying that they are raising capital for their business and need to sell the RV quickly. And they say it's in Indiana. I replied "Are these pics REALLY of your RV?", knowing they weren't. Of course he said yes. I dropped it after that. The way the pics were done they were unmistakeable since the rig was decorated inside and out.

So the guy steals the pics from a dealership and tries to sell the RV he doesn't have for a ridiculously low price. I suspect he would eventually ask me to wire him money to arrange the pickup. Um, no.

I just got a new one today that was a receipt from Delta Airlines for a trip in June. I never booked a flight but it had a link to confirm it. I'm not stupid enough to click on it.

Turn about is fair play.

We live in Playa del Carmen, Mexico during the winter. There are many chances to view and learn about vacation ownership. Quite a few of us locals do it on cloudy days. The going rate is: admission to the resort for three buffet meals, $200, two bottles of booze, two tee shirts, two blankets and a taxi home. Ask for that, stick to your guns and they will deliver.
It looked to be a ugly day so we headed off to the tourist area. The sidewalks were jammed. We had our loudest Aloha shirts and sparkly jewelry on and she was carrying a backpack. We looked like targets for sure and were soon approached. By a time share sales guy.
We told the truth, we are staying in a condo here and we are not buying. He didn't care and we were soon on our way. The presentation begain as it always does with small talk and gentle probing qualification over breakfast. We were shown the resort which was very nice.
The presentation began, I made a great show of looking at my watch. Right on time the salesman began to close. He could write upside down! He scribbled on the pad how we could actually make money and our kids could inerit and bla bla bla. We just said "No." He asked why" We politely explained that we didn't want to buy it, "No."
My lady has pure white hair cut in a severe undercut. With her tropical tan it is very striking. I do voiceover and have a gigantic moustash and fairly distinctive sound so we are recognizable.
The closer appeared. He was shuffling through the yellow legal papers our guy had so artfully crafted upside down. The closer was dressed much better that the original guy. He sat down at the table. It appeared to be his turn to have a shot at us. This pitch was to be on white paper. Moving on up! He looked at us for a moment, paused and just got up and walked away. He tossed the pile of papers on the receptionists desk and said, "These people live here." Busted! We got our stuff but we were escorted to the taxi, no more booze and food that day.

I still fun to fill the prepaid return envelopes to the companies wanting you to join something, with grass and beans and torn paper just so they have a large
postage due" bill from the USPO.
They soon stop sending the crap after that

I can't recall the numbers right now but the amount of positive responses a company needs per 100 of those prepaid envelopes they send out is extremely minimal. Now if more people did what you do ( and what i do) then it might cut down on that trash but if just a couple respond for real, it is profitable for them.

My desktop is connected to my land line. Whenever a call comes in, my fax program pops up a window with the number. If I don't recognize it, they get fax tone with a click of my mouse. I still get a lot of those calls where there is no one on the other end and they are checking if it is a legit number.

Another thing to do is say someone is at the door, put the phone down and wait for the beep-beep-beep.

I am "famous" for this. My friends have had me answer their phones when I am at their house. Once I took a call where they were promoting their spa therapy package. I told the marketeer that I'd heard of a new massage treatment for hemmeroids and asked if they offered that. After a 10 minute discussion on the benefits of hemmeroid massage therapy the hung up on me.

My other favorite is when Sears called to sell me an extended warranty on my garage door opener. I explained that I thought sears was the best and would last for years, therefore I shouldn't need an extended warranty. The caller agreed. I told her thanks for calling and hung up.

I love messing with hem. But sometimes a battle of wits is no fun when facing an unarmed opponent.

P.s. I can't spell hemmoroids and neither does my spell check. :-)

I got a call today. They will give me a 2 day trip to the Bahamas free for taking this political poll 2 days?, man that is cheap? I'm thinking ok I will bite so. I hit 1 as asked then the first question. Do I approve of the 2 political candidates for president, I said no. It repeated it again and I said no, it won't recognize the no answer, so I figure its connected to some political poll that they only want yes, so hung up on it.

I also get those scam letters, usually from Nigeria, that one above is different.

For awhile I got phone calls from the Houston jail trying to get me to press a number, the guy had a big story how he had to get in touch with so and so. I just hung up. Then they tried it when my mentally challenged daughter was home, she said no I can't do that. She said they called her honey and everything. So I called the operator and found out if I pressed those numbers then they could make unlimited calls through our number. I had it blocked, end of that.

The things people try, amazing.

Help me out here......they offer you three buffet meals, $200, two bottles of booze, two tee shirts & a taxi if you will attend their "sales"presentation. They have not misrepresented anything ......they are offering you "stuff" to attend a sales presentation....and they deliver on their promise(s). They are in fact attempting to sell you a legitimate product......"shared time in a resort".... You can see & touch the Resort before you purchase it & you are aware that timeshare, as a product is legitimately enjoyed by millions of people worldwide....in addition you are aware that reputable US Companies such as Hilton, Marriott, Westin, Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton, Disney, etc all use this same sales presentation approach.....

.In other words, you weren't born yesterday.....you knew full well what you were doing and you set out to defraud a legitimate business that made you a legitimate monetary offer in exchange for your time. Looks to me like you took several hundred(s) of their dollars under false pretense? You knew full well that your residence status disqualified you from the presentation?

Tell me....who's the scam artist? How is this fair play? How have you been scammed? How does your messing with the local Resorts help the thousands of local people who work at these Resorts, the people who supply these Resorts with goods & services...are you going to pay higher property taxes to the town if these Resorts fail?

Sorry....I don't get the joke.
