I Just Couldn't Believe It!
Yesterday, I went to Camping World, near Tampa, to get new shocks put on my Providence. I told the salesman, that I would like to have new "Koni" shocks installed, because I heard that they were one of the best brands. The salesman said "Koni's? What are they? I've never heard of them?" I asked, "what kind do you install"? He said "Bilstiens". So I said goodbye!

Yea they hire anyone willing to do the job & show up for work on time. I once had a car salesman ask me what Route 66 was. I told him if he didn't have a slightest clue about historical Route 66 I was not going to even talk to him about a new car, looked at the DW & we both turned around & went back to our car & left that dealership. By the way this was in Phoenix & he was about 50 years old.

I have Bilstiens, (which may not be the "best shocks in the world", but they aren't "bad" either).
BTW I said goodby to Camping World service over 12 years ago...I don't have $$ to waste, (or the time to have anything done over)!

Don't get me wrong. I'm not knocking Bilistiens. I may have to get them installed, instead of the Koni's. I was searching the internet, for prices and saw, that since I have a Spartan Chassis, I might have to purchase a $167.00 special bracket, in order to install the Koni. Now I'm wondering if that is for each shock? That would run the price of one koni, over $367.00 each! And that doesn't even include the labor, if I don't do it myself! Yikes!

I have Bilsteins and have absolutely no issue with the ride on my coach. Although, they only have 40,000 miles on them.
Maybe some coaches ride is like a buckin bronc and require Koni's LOL!

Haaa, ... shocks for our race cars start at about $1K each. Just performance shocks for cars cost more the $200 each.

I have to chuckle with you on this one too. The Bilstein PSS9s for my recently sold Porshe (track oriented street car) were about $2k, plus install and corner balance was close to $3k all in. Just couldn't justify (to my wife) the $4.5k for the Motons....... those orange remote canisters had to be worth 2 seconds a lap just because they looked so cool. I don't remember what the Konis from Dinan cost as part of the suspension package on my BMW 10+years ago.
In any case, same old debates on after markets parts whether it is a car or RV.

I've run Bilstiens on everything from my 73 Bimmer to my 95 National Seabreeze and never had any problem with them on anything I ran in the street. I would have run away from camping world anyway as the guy had no idea of what Koni was.

I paid for Koni's once, for a ford F53 chassis. Would I pay that for shocks again, I doubt it!
They are really no better than a quality shock that sells for almost half the price!

Did the same on my F53 and I think the ride was actually worse

Funny that in the RV world Koni is felt to be superior to Bilstein, whereas in the Automotive world it is just the opposite. Wonder if Motons, err Motion Controls (now) would give my RV another 2 seconds?
