Times have changed. I have a couple of ball caps saying veteran or USMC veteran and I have stopped wearing them because I'm just not comfortable with the "thank you for your service to our country" comments I receive. These (I believe) are all sincere and well meaning but I didn't serve to get comments & thank you's 45 years after I got out. The thank you's should really go to those who didn't make it back and their families. In my opinion Ed Freemen and many others are real HERO's.

Having been made into a cynic when I hear all of the thank you's and I support our troops I immediately feel what's in it for you, but if it makes you all feel better go for it

I told her thanks for her email and taking time to investigate the original contents. I also told her the response it was receiving on the irv2.com RVing forum.
I have to bite my lip to keep from correcting those that refer to them as Medal of Honor "winners" because I know they mean well. They are Medal of Honor Recipients, not one ever won it, they each earned it. Most earned it with their life.

John

Makes me think you weren't there. Am I wrong?? ( I'm wrong just read your BIO)

In addition I wonder (due to your position on this forum) how sincere any welcome comments to newbys to this forum are.

Will you be Pi_ _ing on their leg and telling them its raining.

As a member I posted an honest feeling, I may be a little slow but I fail to understand what that feeling has to do with your reference.

John

By virture of your position on this forum you of course are a member. However, I feel your comment of questioning the intergrity of all who say "I support or thank you" leaves me to believe what you might say as being questionable.

I believe he is just saying that it has now become a 'conditioned response' to say 'thank you for your service' when ever anyone meets a soldier/vet. I myself have found it tiring at times, especially when it comes from someone I know doesnt actually support us...

That said, I just let it go. Its better than what people use to say...
