For us, a port like this would be ideal, but without the adjoining structures or fence.

I have considered buying a couple of acres next door to my brother so that there would be someone to at least watch over it when we are traveling but have also considered buying land close to our RV lot at the beach. I would want something 5-10 miles inland to lessen the chance of storms and surges as well as being less expensive. We are about 5 years away from retirement but this is something I have thought about going ahead and starting now. Even though we think we know where we want to be after retirement, there is a little voice that tells me that once we see other parts of this country, we may end up some place unexpected.

We are actually pursuing this type of property now. Looking in N. AZ, CO, NM and maybe UT. Just looked at 4.3 ac on the Dolores River last week. I would like to find the raw land and make the improvements myself. It will be mainly for summer use, since we already have a great winter home. The problem we keep running into is, there is a fine line between restrictive covenants that will allow parking an RV, and undesirable growth. Prices are another problem. I could see building another RV port like the one I built at the S&B, but with minimal living quarters included for a bath and W/D.

Adding the bath is a great idea.

Too high and you lose a whole season. Some properties in the higher elevations list the roads as "seasonal"!

Depends on where we decide to land and if we want to be there all year.
Thinking about being near the shore (ocean), but also want "nearby" access to mountains (Jeeping).
Would like several acres with some trees and a grassy pasture.
Large barn that looks run down and unused. Grassy gravel drive, coming in from the side and broken down fences. Someplace that looks worth nothing!
Inside is the large, all purpose room for 1/3 of it. Kitchen, laundry, bath and maybe separate bedroom. Rv pulls inside to middle 1/3 and hook ups to live in it. All Rv vents to outside. Last 1/3 is garage and storage.
The idea is to pull in and stay as long as we want. When we pull out, it is just a piece of old, rundown property with nothing of value on it.
Other option is several "lots" in different locations across the US. All services underground and located in a lockable vault. Pull in, hook up and stay as long as we want. Unhook, lock the vault and onto the next spot and repeat.

Ideal RV Port or Property

I had 40 acres of "lot" for over 20 years. It was great! We couldn't even keep up with the trees for firewood that fell down. Great scenery, and awesome trout fishing.
But it was just a vacation spot. It served us well until the horizon grew.
Now, retirement and fulltiming. No more vacations for us, only adventures.
Some need a roost. Ours is where the rv is parked....for a short while.
Every place we stay is a port, a base for exploration!
Just sayin

Yes. An too low (5000) can get too warm. We think 6500-7K is the "Goldie Locks" zone for a summer retreat.
