If the sink is in the "galley"...

If the sink is in the "galley", a nautical term, shouldn't the other things in an RV be so named?
Such as:
Port and starboard
Hatch
Bulkhead and deck
Fore and aft
Head
Helm
Brightwork
Berth
Stowage
Navigational tool
Captain

Somehow it sounds better to say "look at the nice view off the port bow" rather than the "left front"!!!

I had a hard time getting away from those terms when I left my job. It gets to be so natural.

My wife has worked in the shipping industry for years.
We used to have a boat and belong to a yacht club.
Son and father were in the Navy.
So, where's the head?
Throw out the anchor?
Put the fenders out before we dock?
At least with a MH I can turn on the docking lights!

We do use a navigator, but I always suffer when I try to send her to the chart room.

And don't change traffic lanes unless the car in the lane you are moving into is much more than two points abaft abeam.

Doesn't everyone always use those terms? , DW or First Mate, get pogey bait at the gedunk, go topside, clean the "Charlie Noble", down in the bilge, we have open galley and midrats. The GPS is Bit-ching Betty- most trips are a boondogle with layovers enroute. And Cinderella liberty is now a good thing..
Sometimes - Port is "off the left wing" or at 9 O'clock, Cockpit instead of Bridge, and co-pilot.

You folks are all making my LOL so much I may need to hurl chow over the starboard rail.

We use the lingo often and it has caught on with other campers.

Alas, there is not a mast to stand before, nor a Charlie Noble or a scuttlebutt, but Down The Hatch is a term familiar to many.

Thankful that our decking does not require me to toe the line, but my 1st mate does make me do it, so to speak!

In the 70's, before getting into RV's, we had a 23ft Paceship sailboat. We sailed the North Carolina sounds, the ICW up into Chesapeake Bay and had a great time. Once we had moored and our neighbor mentioned all the gear he had stowed in the lazerette. Of course when we returned to our boat, we looked that up in "ROYCE's Sailing Illustrated". Just about everything I learned about smallboat sailing came from that book..
I also learned that when your top speed is 6 knots you need to sit back and relax..

I am a waterman that is now land -cruising. We use many of the labels that DW learned when we had a sloop. Friends that I have met have asked how I knew so much about RV maintenance. To this I reply...
The difference between and RV and a Recreational Vessel(RV) is only the water can leak out of an RV.

I found that gravity worked to clear the bilge of my runabout as soon as I had enough forward speed that the boat plug cleared water astern. Also found out that forgetting it fills the bilge, and then some ;-)

I have had water leak out of my RV. Dont ask me how I know!
