I found this after I did some research about a rumor about ALL Hallmark Greeting Cards being made in China.

Makes it kinda simple. If it says China on the back it stays on the shelf. If no one buys them they will change.

What if it said "Made in Canada" instead of "Made in China"?

Then a lot of the cars and trucks driving in the USA will go unsold. Besides you guys really can't trust us Canucks.

Actually the auto companies in North America usually have a reciprocal trade agreement. Unlike the Japanese companies who just assemble cars here, made from parts produced there. It is so easy for politicians to fool you into thinking the words "assembled" and "Manufactured" are the same and interchangeable.

Some years ago the State of Washington passed a law requiring that all vehicles purchased had to be MADE in the US. We could no longer buy Dodge vans (made in Canada) but could buy Toyota P/U's.
They made the determination by the percentage of parts actually made in the US, not just assembled here.

The Washington State Lottery Commission just bought a new Mercedes Benz vehicle for "advertising". I'm sure it's 100% made in the US.

I assume you mean vehicles purchased by the State government, Mr. D. We've bought Japanese (Toyota and two Hondas) and Korean (a Kia Sedona) the last four times. We lived in Bothell when we got the Camry ('85), in Everett when we got the Accord and Odyssey (both 95's, the Odyssey bought used) and in Anacortes when we bought the Sedona ('03).

In every case, as a former autometive and aerospace engineer, I couldn't live with the cheap crap the US manufacturers were trying to sell in that time frame. We did have a '79 Chevette as a second car - least said soonest mended. That one was traded for the Camry.

The '90 Mercury Sable we got was the biggest pile of junk I ever owned - even worse than my 1958 DKW, my 1962 MG1100, my 1968 Rover 2000, my 1990 (?) Renault 18i or my daughter's Renault Alliance.

It appears that the US manufacturers are getting wise. It helps that a former Boeing exec now runs Ford, but I'm still sceptical that "Fix It Again Tony" can really make Chrysler well again..

I agree! The only way we are going to turn this county around is to buy from this country. We visited Linville Caverns in NC this summer. Every blessed souvenier was made overseas. I had intened to buy gifts for the g-kids but I told the clerk I would not be making any purchases and why. Probably didn't do much good, but I felt better.
Now I don't see too many things in the stores made in Canada, but I will buy their products. I lived near the Canadian border years ago. The mall in Watertown would be full of Canadians buying our products. Yes, they got more for their money in the US, but the fact remains, they bought from us.

If it's made in Canada, it's made in America

And remember, if it's made in Mexico, it's made in America.

Now if it has to say "Made in U.S.A.," well, that's different.
