If You were to move South??

We are in Arkansas... If you were to move south,,, away from the bad winters,,, better weather,, what state would you move to and why? We have family in AZ,,, but I really don't want to live in the desert... On the coast (or near) somewhere would be great.... Florida,,, Texas,, etc... Just dreaming I guess... Guess on a large lake out west wouldn't be bad.....

When we retire, we're only going about as far south as TN or W NC. I still want 4 seasons, even a winter, just not as harsh/long of one as we get here in OH.

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

We retired to south Alabama from middle Alabama. Bride from Texas and Nebraska, and me from Florida and Kentucky.

Northern Gulf Coast of AL has its cold weather, for days at a time. No salt on roads, no nasty cold or hot spells. We're happy here...or we'd move.

Across the line in Pensacola, you'll find low housing prices, low taxes, and great fishing. They just have a whole lot of Crackers over that way

Check out our location. We moved from the FL panhandle last winter we had two foot Ice sickles hanging from the roof and trees. Two palms and most of our landscaping was destroyed.

I would move to the desert in a heartbeat... for six months. Having spent every winter of my life in cold, snow, and rain I could use the change of scenery. Pacific north west is hard to beat for the summer, I can't handle 110 degree plus.

Re taxes...TN, TX, FL all in the south, none have personal income tax.

No place is perfect...wait a minute..the closest for perfect weather year round would be where I grew up San Diego, but man it's expensive, and I no longer speak the language.. Go south...it's heat & humidity. North....cold. The solution for us is a home with wheels.

...should've turned your sprinklers OFF. yes, that was a winter to remember, and very, very rare.

The good news is that we got to have fires in the fireplace almost every night for a few months!

I was born & raised in western Pa. When I thought about where I would retire from the military I knew it wouldn't be Pa because of all the taxes & other cost of living there.
Having been stationed at both Jacksonville & Key West I decided Florida was the place for me. But didn't want to live too far south or north in the state. And didn't want to live right on the coast since that is what gets the blunt of any tropical storms. Ended up purchasing a place about an hour north of Orlando out in the country.
20 years later & no regrets on my choice.
