I find it hilarious that someone posts "statistics" as we here at iRV2 do not ask ANY questions when you register of the sort of information disseminated...

Just remember the old adage....information is usually worth what you pay for it....LOL!!

So, how do they come up with all those statistics anyway?

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

It doesn't surprise me at all. Probably scarier than you would like to think. Really George Orwellian! (Did I spell that right?) They probably have bots/spyware that monitor traffic on the net and can match IP addresses accessing this website with other databases having all the Socio-Economic information.

Wonder where the info is collected. As I make it a point to not post data about age, income, children and the such. They must be making it up...But gee, I must be fairly wealthy to hang with this crowd...otherwise I would not be here.

I call it "good guess stats". Not everyone likes that term, but that is what it appears quite a bit in my field. There is a lot of assuming when traffic companies examine data like this. I worked on a project that involved the top name in media stat collections and was pretty surprised how small the sampling was, and what was looked at as a fact or statistic.

Here is a FAQ on their site that (kind of) explains their methodology.

According to them (and I haven't quite figured out which way it goes) either 4+% of us have Alzheimer's or 4+% with Alzheimer's check us out!! Knowing me, guess I have to go with the first.

Best,

Just how many of us are "Addicts" as per their definition?

The company that came up with these statistics is most likely the same one that supplied the statistics to the company that keeps calling us to puy aluminum siding our brick house!

That's one of my fondest memories of my late father Mike....this fella called him YEARS ago when we were all sitting around the family room and apparently said he'd been in the neighborhood and Dad's house was an excellent candidate for siding....Dad kept that guy on the phone forever, and then said...."tell me one thing....if you've been here to the house, how are you affixing that siding to my brick?" The guy hung up.....

We STILL laugh about that one...

On a serious note, let's not get our panties in a wad over statistics we know we don't give these folks.
