Frankly, I'm disgusted by how commercialized Holidays have become. Thanksgiving has become all about how much you can eat and watching a game or few. Many people can't even be bothered to call it Thanksgiving any more, calling it turkey day. If one person asks me after Thanksgiving if I got stuffed, I'll scream!

Christmas used to be my favorite holiday. I loved the music and the lights; I'll spare you all the religious aspect (mostly to avoid getting moderated). Unfortunately, it has become so commercialized, I'm disgusted by it. It's become all about the sales, presents, what did I get, greed, you get the point. This year, the Black Friday TV commercials were the most obnoxious I've seen to date. One actually had a woman singing while shoving a cart through the store and grabbing something from someone else's cart and putting it in her's. That kind of behavior, along with the crowded parking lots (more like demolition derbies), long lines, and people generally acting like selfish idiots, is why I quit shopping on Black Friday. Retailers have become so greedy, many are opening on Thanksgiving this year! I feel for their employees who have to work instead of being with their families (been there, done that). I have yet to have one person mention to me the reason for the season this year.

To answer the original question... No! I'm not waiting for Black Friday! I waiting for the feeding frenzy to be over!

(Rant over. You are now being returned to your regularly scheduled thread.)
Not only a good post Lady F, but an excellent one. The only difference I can add for myself is that I have never attended or gone to a Black Friday sale, not even back in the years when I was a single parent and every single penny counted and having presents under the tree was important. At the wife's prompting, after we obtained the "empty nest", we even gave up the "guess what I got you for Christmas" routine several years ago and we decide to get what "we" want as a couple. We start that planning generally by late summer so we can change the plan as needed. One year it was matching recliners and new carpet for the den, the next year was a new TV to go along with the new recliners. This year it's the new to us RV we picked up yesterday that we will spend many hours in getting away togather.

I think the important part of the year for me is Mother's day. That is when I buy the nice gift for DW.

I do not want anything to do with Black Friday, nor anything to do with the day after Christmas. It has all been as LadyFitz has stated, commercialized. The true meaning of Thanksgiving is not their anymore, giving thanks for what we have.

I'm sure not going to sit around waiting for midnight just to buy something. That "something" will be on sale at some point in its electronic/mechanical life.

Ms. LadyFitz, "Go get stuffed now, ya hear"

No is my answer. I buy stuff when what I have breaks. At that time I go on line and get the best deal available at that time.

Nothing they are selling at any price would get me to fight the crowds. If I want it bad enough, I will just pay the off-sale price.

Heading out with the camper in the morning for a short weekend trip away from work, the traffic and doing anything.

Excellent. Thank you! Those kids will never forget you.

And I will never forget them. The picture is last years group. At the end they gave me an ornament with my name on it, brought tears to my eyes. It's would be impossible to say who has more fun the kids or me. Nothing I do throughout the year brings me as much pleasure. They all have own sweatshirts they picked out.

I bought a 10" Table Saw from Lowes for $69 at 4am... Drinking my coffee, sitting in front of my computer. I'll pick it up in a day or so when the crowds die down.

You my friend have the TRUE holiday spirit. What a wonderful world it would be if everyone had your generocity. If we would all do just one act of kindness this holiday season, just think how good we would all feel ! God bless you !

A True Act of Love.

Wife is hanging the outdoor lights and needed hanger for the gutter. To show her how much I love her I went to Lowes on Black Friday to get her light hangers. If that's not true love I don't know what is.
