Got an email from Best Buy the other day promoting their on-line Black Friday sales event that will begin at midnight tonight. I have my eye on a cheap 24" LCD TV to replace the the boat anchor that used to be in the dash.
At $79.99 I don't even care if it is a low quality unit, at least it has a one year warranty if anything goes wrong.

Anyway wanted to give others a heads up if they are looking for a good on-line electronics buy later on tonight

I like saving money but I just can't compete with the crowds on Black Friday. Good luck to you.

Same here, but the on-line sales don't have any lines. Buy your item (ASAP) on-line then pick it up later when the crowds thin out.

Black Fridays are for rookies that don't know how to get the lowest prices anytime of the year. As some of you have pointed out, there aren som great on line prices with free delivery.

I quit going out on Black Friday in over 20 years ago. It just wasn't worth the frustration and insanity.

(Rant Alert.)

Frankly, I'm disgusted by how commercialized Holidays have become. Thanksgiving has become all about how much you can eat and watching a game or few. Many people can't even be bothered to call it Thanksgiving any more, calling it turkey day. If one person asks me after Thanksgiving if I got stuffed, I'll scream!

Christmas used to be my favorite holiday. I loved the music and the lights; I'll spare you all the religious aspect (mostly to avoid getting moderated). Unfortunately, it has become so commercialized, I'm disgusted by it. It's become all about the sales, presents, what did I get, greed, you get the point. This year, the Black Friday TV commercials were the most obnoxious I've seen to date. One actually had a woman singing while shoving a cart through the store and grabbing something from someone else's cart and putting it in her's. That kind of behavior, along with the crowded parking lots (more like demolition derbies), long lines, and people generally acting like selfish idiots, is why I quit shopping on Black Friday. Retailers have become so greedy, many are opening on Thanksgiving this year! I feel for their employees who have to work instead of being with their families (been there, done that). I have yet to have one person mention to me the reason for the season this year.

To answer the original question... No! I'm not waiting for Black Friday! I waiting for the feeding frenzy to be over!

(Rant over. You are now being returned to your regularly scheduled thread.)

I don't have a solution for the commercialization of Thanksgiving.

At Christmas It has always been my wish that everyone intent on buying me something instead take that amount of money and give it to a charity of their choice.

I also enjoy taking 3 or 4 kids from Big Brothers/Big Sister on a Mall wide shopping spree. All kids deserve an awesome Christmas at least once.

It gives me great pleasure to do this [Moderator edit]

Humm... greed and commercialism, isn't that what this country is based on?

Capitalism gone wild!

Scares me to death that I have to take the RV to the dealer tomorrow to get ready for Florida, as if the driving isn't crazy enough without all those sleep deprived fools trying to rush from store to store!

Be sure to read the fine print! That particular item "requires a ticket for purchase". That means there will only be a few available and if you are not first in line you won't get a ticket. I don't know how the on-line side of that will work but I suspect it's a lot like some of the sweepstakes disclaimers you see on TV. "Many will enter, few will win".
Let us know how it works out. I really would be interested.

The old "bait sale ad" bit, they do it every year and people fall for it every year. They're banking on the fact that WHEN you don't obtain the ridiculously cheap item (they had 3 in stock when the doors opened), you'll buy something else overpriced.

It wasn't that long ago the wife was scrambling to get the "Tickle me Elmo" on Black Friday.

You hit the nail right on the head here. Here in Illinois the "holiday season" actually began in early October with the stores getting their displays ready. The bell ringers were out two weeks ago at Walmart and the local grocery store. "Holiday" music playing endlessly at the stores.
Its disgusting and I want no part of it. I buy almost everything online and try my best to ignore the rest. Black Friday to me is symbolic of the attitude that got this country into trouble in the first place, seems to me a lot of folks haven't learned their lesson yet.

One word - "NO". Think I'll go over and get the 5vr ready to escape the madness as soon as the Thanksgiving rush is over.
