Your guess is as good as mine, but I truly doubt the exemption will expire because of the politics associated with it.

Like the loss of farming jobs due to mechanization, industrial jobs have been decreasing since the turn of the last century due to increased productivity more then the shipping overseas of jobs. Before anyone starts in on how we should Force people to buy American only and pay everyone a living wage I would recommend you take a beginner class in basic economics and see how foolish that to be. Unless you have unlimited resources you must have supply and demand which is the only way to equally share limited resources. In the 1910 census I had a relative who was a saddle maker, in the 1920 census he was now a shoe maker - things change and so shall we.

Does anyone know that Kmart, Target and Walmart are 50 years old today. So who is killing America?

Walmart has run most small business out of business, but it is our greed to get the best price that lets this happens. Some day we will be sorry, We have not stepped foot in a Walmart in over 7 years, and we get along just fine, no need to support them

I guess it is just representative of how our values have changed. I don't think Sam had the vision of what has become of his empire. Everyone feels entitled and i prefer to spend time with hard working friends. I should just spend more time fishing with the time off I have earned.

I know your statement is not true.. K-Mart started as SS Kresgee way more than 50 years ago, I worked at K-Mart (not for, but at) over 40 years ago (The store was 5 years old then) but at that time it was still "The K-Mart division of S.S.Kresgey Did not offically become K-mart corp till later.

Target and Wal-Mart are both younger than 40 years.

Though Target's parent is much older as well.

The first Wal-Mart was opened on July 2, 1962. That's 50 years ago.

I don't think Walmart is killing America but greed is.

We have an estate tax because wealth became too concentrated among a few families to the detriment of the rest of the country. Let's not repeat that century.

Why is the government, or anyone else for that matter, entitled to the wealth that I have created? I should be able to decide who gets my wealth after my death. I don't want your money and you shouldn't want mine.

As someone said, greed. This is just a different kind. You worked hard for it, and they want it. Simple.

I certainly have not read all 200 and some posts on this subject so pardon me if I repeat what has already been written.

Wal-Mart succeeds because they are smarter than the other guys out there. They are so cutting edge on cost savings, yes they do squeeze the heck out of their suppliers, but hey you don't have to sell your products to them. Simple things like sky lights and keeping the lights off during the less busy morning hours. Controlling the HVAC for each store from the corporate HQ. Putting parking lot light towers a few feet taller than most plaze or stores because they will need fewer towers because taller the light the greater light cast. I interviewed with Wal-Mart back in 1988. They talked about how they save money. Simple things like company executives traveling and staying at maybe a Holiday Inn instead of Marriats or better. Company cars were Chevy's! Unions hate Wal-Mart from the great mis-information campaign waged against them brought on by the grocery store unions who are often associated with organized crime. Where is the outrage when a Target or Kohls or Sears or any other retailer wants to open a new store? This is the type of antics that make people turn away from union support. My brother in law is a UAW guy that hates Wal-Mart, but he can't tell you why, he's just another puppet listening to his union.
Wal-Mart did not start the rage of everything made in China. I am sure Baby Boomers remember in the 50's and early 60's when everthing was made in Japan and how we thought it was all junk too! Back in the early 80's I had a Korean shoe maker (living in the US) tell me that the USA wasn't exporting their jobs to countries such as China and Taiwan and on and on, but we were "exporting our pollution"! Think about that for a second. Today, the EPA might be the strongest and mightest branch of our government. Power with out oversight from the currant administration in office. Think if you had a small company start up, and even if everything else is equal with cost to bring to market by producing it overseas vs. here, then you get to the 35% corporate tax Uncle Sam is going to rake you for instead of like 23% in Canada and 15% in Germany and generally less than that throughout most industrilized nations, where would you build your widget? Are you in business to make money, or just an ad hoc employee of our govenrment, doing the work and handing over the fruits of your hard labor to Uncle Sam.

Its not Wal-Marts fault!

If you all want to discuss the merits of Walmarts management and founding dates start another thread about it, it really does not relate to Walmart parking.

It's been brought to my attention that I was very mistaken when I posted the above, I was in fact in the wrong thread when I posted this, please carry on and accept my apologizes
