I often browse through Ebay and look at prices that things have sold for. I saw this item and it's certainly unique If it wasn't for all the photo's and write-up I would have thought the unit was fake.

Incidently the auction is over and apparently the trailer sold.

Anyone ever see one of these? I bet it goes straight without swaying, but how do you back it into a campsite?

Very unique, to say the least.

At first look I thought it might be home built or modified but he says it's factory built in his Q&A.

He also says this is factory made deluxe 25th anniversary model and the front wheels turn as you go around a corner, a swiveling axle. The wheels turn together at the same time. They only turn slightly as the tow vehicle is turning.

I bet backing it is a bear!

Very different. But from experiences backing a farm wagon, it will be a bear to back it.

I bet it would be a bear to back up. We have a garden wagon we use with our riding lawnmower that is setup just like it, and it is all but impossible to back it up.

It would probably not be as hard as you think. If you notice, the tounge is not directly connected to the front axles like most farm wagons are. I suspect that there is some sort of linkage between the tounge and the wheels, but it is not direct. It would probably act more like a towd. I looked at the Sportsman brand in the mid 80's. At that time they were located in So Idaho and would build everything custom to your specs - so I suspect anything is possible.

My first question would be "How fast would you be able to tow this on the highway, 30 MPH ?"

If the tow bar was attached to the frame and the front wheels were free to caster it shouldn't be too hard to back up.

We have a number of these up here in sheep country. These guys move these rigs up into the mountains during the summer and stay up there until the fall. Some of the places they go have no roads at all just a flat spot. I have never seen them backed into a place. It seems they just tow it where they want it and drop the bar.

I remember that trailer or one like it being in Trailer Life way back in the 80's some time and it was sat up to pull good from the test that was done on it. I will be sticking with my fifth wheel, thank you..
