Just a suggestion about your "stinky slinky".

Arrived at our Flagstaff campground yesterday and got up this AM to make my coffee and watch the news. As I sat at my table I also noticed a fellow across the way preparing to depart. He had dumped his tanks and was working with his water hose. He then did what I've seen so many others do, stick the end of his drinking water hose down the end of his sewer hose to "clean it out". My thought is, since you don't drink water out of your sewer hose, why do you want to possibly contaminate the hose you do drink out of? How many of you do just what he did this morning? Or even worse (and I've witnessed this so many times), wash out your slinky by putting the end of it over the water faucet, thereby contaminating it for the next guy! We use a paper towel with Clorox to clean the faucet before we hook up our water hose because we've seen folks do this.

We have a short section of hose we put on ANOTHER hose that is used just to rinse the slinky, dump valves, etc. And never the twain shall meet.

I carry two hoses. A white one for potable water and a green one for clean up and wash out. Upon wind up each hose gets connected to itself to keep the insides from becoming contaminated. Works for me.

i use the hose that i connect to my black tank flush inlet. i always close up and put away my potable water hose before touching the black tank to eliminate confusion.

Just how clean do you think rinsing gets the inside of your slinky, anyway?

I'm happy with just dumping full tank of black, full tank of gray, draining carefully and putting away. I don't see much point in spraying water around that accomplishes nothing in the way of sanitation.

And I'm with the OP, licking out the slinky (which is exactly what contaminating your fresh water hose accomplishes) is beyond nasty and stupid and well into "you deserve what ever you get".

We do as Pricejh does but also the hoses are placed in different containers in different bays, so as to keep cross-contamination reduced. I also have a spray bottle containing a bleach/water solution. I spray down the shore water connection, top to bottom & inside the spigot, before hooking up. Then run water through the hose before connecting it to our coach. After breaking camp & right before pulling away (after all is rinsed, spritz'd & packed away) I spritz the bleach solution inside the water bay area as a final "gotcha" to any remaining germs.

May be paranoid or just OCD for cleanliness, but after seeing what I've seen some do, not only at a campsite but at the dumpstation , I figure I can't be too careful.

The only reason to flush out the sewer hose is to wash out the grey water. And yes
it does not sanitize it but helps on odors.

I'm not anal, but (ha ha there) I aways use seperate hoses for my potable water(white) and flushing hose (green), store them seperate and always clean evey thing up. I conect the ends of the slinky together aswell when done with it. When all done I use a liberal amount of hand sanitiser on myself.

I have seen so many bad things at the dump station inconsiderate people do. Not all were out of intent but many out of lack of caring or knowledge. The ones that upset me are the people that make a huge mess when there hose pops out of the hole because they dont use an elbow. They just stand there stuned till all there waste is all over the dump area and then pick up their hose and move on leaving all there crap (literaly) all over the dump site.

As well, be wary of the hose that is provided at the dump for the pupose of flushing your system. I was witness to a guy sticking the hose through the dump conections on his trailer up into his tank to flush out the solids which then landed on the ground.

I'm glad we are all of the same mindset. Hopefully by reminding those newbees out there that there is a right way to do this chore we all can benefit from cleaner and safer facilities.

I figure if emptying the gray water tank after the black water doesn't clean out the sewer hose then it's time for a new hose. If I'm dumping at my site I'll usually run some water from the sink or shower with the gray tank valve open to rinse out the hose after I've finished dumping.

Two hoses, white for fresh and grey for sewer. Separate compartments. Rhino sewer drain hose with caps for ends. Hand sanitizer for me...VERY big bottle!
