GM also has plants in Mexico. The Cadillac SRX is "assembled" there.

Even most so-called American Cars are assembled in Canada, or Asia, the motors and/or major components and certainly the electronics come from Japan, Korea, or China. They slap an emblem of FORD, CHEVY, or Chrysler on em but if you look and read closely you will be shocked at where the "pieces parts" really came from. Try to work on your M/H, you better have a metric as well as ASE set of wrenches and sockets.

Ours takes SAE and metric wrenches.
Way back in the 70's the State of WA passed a law requiring all vehicles purchased to be "made in the USA" with XX% of USA made parts. At that point we could no longer buy Dodge vans (made and assembled mostly in Canada) but could buy Toyota P/U's. That lasted till the next legislative session when they repealed the law, and that was 40 years ago!!

Our '05 Honda Odyssey is mostly made/assembled in the US, our '08 Civic came from Canada.

Actually, Flat Rock was a Ford/Mazda plant. The big Honda assembly plant is in Marysville, OH (NW of Columbus) with an engine plant in Ada, OH. My 2003 Acura 3.2TL-S was assembled in Marysville.

Get paid a lot - - - pay out very little
Our economy has shifted to a service economy. Most of us make our money providing services (not products) to our fellow Americans.
There's various reasons for this trend. One of many is that American workers want to be paid $58k - $75k doing a job they learned to do the first morning they showed up to the plant (twist the same nut on to the same bolt . . . . . time after time after time). No expertise, unusual dexterity, scientific knowledge, or social skills required.
THEN . . . (and this really causes problems for our economy) . . . . . . they insist on buying a Christmas shirt for uncle Harold for $12.99 (or less) and a $18.00 (or less) skirt for aunt Edna. Where in the world can such things be made???????? Well, not in the United States (or by Americans).
Heap on a large helping of Americans who have no intention of working to support themselves (they grow up with no employable skills) and you have a service economy NOT a manufacturing economy. We ignore the actual causes of poverty and unemployment and promise to support those "lost" souls for the rest of their lives. They have an average of 5 children compared to productive workers who average 2.5 children.
I know, I must be an unfeeling, blest from birth, filthy rich, person who was lucky to be in my present position in life. NOT

Let's not stray off into political debate, folks. The topic is "made in America", not "what's wrong with America"

Gary,
I know we should stay away from politics but the two are so intertwined that some times the conversation will stray over the line. There is no one thing to blame for manufacturing jobs leaving the country, it's lots of things, higher corporate taxes, high union wages, a workforce not willing to take on such jobs and a buying public that wants ever lower prices.
One thing that is proven through out history is once a civilization starts loosing the ability to produce it's own goods it starts to to decline... I certainly hope we are not on that path.
