Kentucky License Renewal vs. GMAC Insurance

Has anyone renewed their Kentucky - Campbell County tags that has GMAC / National General Insurance? I am into my 5th. "customer service" call to GMAC to resolve the issue. Not sure who is at fault, NGI or KY? Has anyone else had this problem?

You didn't say what the problem is. Did the license bureau refuse to recognize your proof of insurance? Did GMAC not provide up to date proof card? Or?

Ky DMV Insurance Requirement and GMAC/NGI

NGI and KY Dept of insurance are not communicating. Policy has been in force since last July, paid annual premium. Local DMV requires something dated within last 45 days indicating insurance is in force. NGI computer system cannot produce a letter that indicates such date. After 5th. call got a CSR to type a manual letter, hope this works on Monday when I go back to DMV.

They pulled this crap on me here in Graves County, Ky. last month told me it's a new law and if you get pulled over by the police that you can even give a ticket for non proof of insurance if your proof of insurance card is dated over 45 days old. How many insurance companys send out insurance cards every 45 days? How about making a law about getting raped by the state of Kentucky, my 2009 Fleetwood Bounder costed me right at $900.00 just to pay the property tax and plates fees.

It's personal property tax on the assessed value of vehicles, and diminishes each year as a vehicle gets older. I have read that it's really high in Pennsylvania. The 2011 Kentucky assessed value of my 1999 Safari Trek was $16,200 and tax was $197. Total license fee was $237.

And, there has been nothing in the KY media about renewing proof of insurance cards every 45 days. I have to show a current card each time I renew a license plate but, as long as the date span is in effect, the card is accepted. The insurance on some of our vehicles is renewed every 6 months, but a collector car policy on one only renews once a year.

No property tax in PA maybe some counties, but no state.

Ooops. Poor memory... sorry.

There is another thread regarding taxes on RV's, and some people do pay quite large fees.

Post script....I received a special letter from a NGI customer service rep with a current date which stated that I have coverage since last July with today's date and the DMV accepted this as proof of coverage and they issued a renewal sticker for a cost of $862 dollars!! Plan ahead if your are titled in Kentucky and use GMAC/NGI. There is lack of communication between the state insurance commission and NGI.

I will never deal with GMAC every again, awful service and way over-priced
