Regardless of what he took down the drone with shotgun, pea shooter, sling shot,garden hose! I'm happy he did! We really don't need this Spy in the Sky hovering over our back yards.

If the drone is considered to be an airplane then it should have visible identification that leads to the owner/operator.

So I say shoot it allright but with a high res camera that can capture that identification.

THEN. if you have reason to feel that the operator was, say, spying on your sunbathing daughter (or wife) instead of shooting the bird with a gun and then having the grief of being a defendant.

Hand the photo (or a copy of it) to the proper people. Sign a "Peeping tom" complaint and let HIM suffer the court's attention.

Ask the operator to pay for the peep show too.. lots and lots for invasion of privacy (A different judge in the kind of court where it is on him to prove he is NOT responsible).

That is called shooting him with the deadliest weapon in the world... A LAWYER Gun.

Unfortunately., signing a compliant and then proving it in court, which will be your burden, are two entirely different things. With a criminal compliant you will have to prove the peeping beyond a reasonable doubt.

Sorry to say but probably the only person to win will be the lawyer

I agree. I would imagine that there is now one drone operator, at least, that will think twice about looking into people's back yards.

It's not the "RC model airplane" type drones that bother me, rather the autonomous, commercial delivery drones that are being discussed by Amazon and others. Right now the rules say the drone has to be "within sight" of the operator, but clearly that won't save money for Amazon - as each package will have to be delivered by someon who "keeps sight " of the drone.

I'll wait until my package has been unhooked and then take a baseball bat to the drone before it takes off again.

Living in a rural area, I say any drone flying beneath my tree line is fair game. I would consider it a threat to my safety.

While I agree that taking out a drone that is over your property should be allowed, the sad fact is there are laws that prohibit it. There is a Federal law making it illegal to fire at aircraft and the FAA does consider drones to be aircraft. Also, most municipalities, if not all of them, prohibit discharging firearms within city limits.
