My opinion This is a real privacy issue, hovering over his back yard! Whats your opinion, was he wright or wrong?

I feel he was right. Nobody should be taking pictures of your backyard

Shooting firearms in a residential area is (or should be) illegal just about everywhere. This will never prevent the use of deadly force in defense of self or others whose lives are in danger. Those projectiles will come back to the ground somewhere, and people can be injured or killed by them. Less-than-lethal force, IMHO, should be OK everywhere. Most of these drones could probably be knocked out of the air by the water stream from a garden hose.

Nice touch that he over-charged the guy, making it easy for the judge to set things right.

If he used #8 birdshot as mentioned in the story I read, I see no problem shooting it down. A judge should throw this out. It's too bad he has to hire a lawyer to defend him. How would you like some perv flying his drone over your backyard while your 9 or 10yr. old daughter is swimming in the pool?

Someone needs to develop a jamming device to block the signal to the drone.

Unfortunately, the boo-oh-craps have made a mess of this as well...
it is a federal offense to shoot one down since it is treated as if it were an airplane in their eyes

The answer is very simple. Buy a cheap drone yourself and when one is hovering in YOUR airspace, just crash into it. Then the onus will be on them to prove that it was your fault. They might have to even explain exactly what their drone was doing there in the first place. Of course the downside is that you may have a platoon of FAA investigators the scene for weeks.

I fly drones. I am a licensed pilot. If you could see what I see from my FPV monitor from 300-400 feet up, you would realize I am not spying on you...the resolution is not that good, and even my 4k camera cannot see in any greater detail than an aircraft passing over at 1,000 feet. I have no desire to invade anyone's privacy, and can legally operate my drone over private property, at reasonable altitude. It seems as the fools using drones irresponsibly are giving the hobby a bad name. Shooting one out of the sky is just a ridiculous overreaction, and is far more risky than a drone passing overhead!
The stunning videos we get from the places we RV are the main reason we use the drones, not to spy on or annoy the neighbors!😀

Dave you probably realize it, but it is not you, or the other 98 operators who are considerate and responsible. It is the 1 who is either brain-dead or thinks that they're funny, flying low over peoples houses or interfering with fire fighting or rescue operations.

It also seems like the general public is quickly becoming intolerant of them due to all the recent negative publicity as well.

They do make them and they are illegal per the FCC, not only will it jam the drone but anything else with in range (cell phone (think 911), garage door opener, car keys, etc). We use them in the middle east to block IED's.
