Question Keys

Those of you , who have had back-up keys made, Where did you go ?

I have a 2008 Winn. View ,on a dodge sprinter chassis .
Do I go to a Chrysler dealer ?
Do I go to an authorized Winnebago dealer ?

Check Ebay, I bought extra keys for my Jeep and my Wife's Chrysler van. Needed to program but as long as you have 1 key you should be able to do this yourself. It was 1/3rd the cost of buying from dealer.

If you have other types of keys for the access door or bay doors it might require a special blank. I bought blanks on Ebay and then took them to the local hardware store to get them cut.

Unfortunately my coach has about 5 different types of keys, engine, front door, dead bolt, fuel door, bay doors. I have 3 complete sets of keys but only 2 key fobs for the keyless entry system.

Unless you have keys with security chips in them, you should be able to get new ones made at any locksmith. I've had two extra sets made this way.

Most any well stocked locksmith could make all of the keys as well as the smart ones.

Please do not order your own blanks...that is like taking your own food to a restaurant and asking them to cook it for you.

What about the ignition key ,for a dodge sprinter,2008 .
Where doe's one go, to get a extra key made.

It seems, getting keys made, for all the other lockable doors , is not much of a problem.

Hiding them in a secret place , is a great idea, it gets you into your RV.

That doesn't help much ,if you don't have an ignition key.

I have two complete sets, my wife has one set, and I the other.

What if (and heaven forbid ) we lose both set of keys, my main concern is getting
getting in first , then getting the engine started.

John,

We had the same issue when we bought our used 2004 Winnebago on a Ford chassis. The Ford dealer made us new keys for like $3.00 a piece. We had 2 extras made just in case.

Our dead bolt on the entry door (we only had one) was another issue. I was going through the manuals and found a "blank" key in a bag marked "Dead Bolt". Took it to an Ace Hardware and they cut the new key at no charge. Works for me.

Try a dealership and see if they can do it. Might be cheaper than a locksmith.

Good luck Lynne

We cut them at our dealership, so I would think other dealerships do it as well.

Most hardware stores around here which make keys have a key reader which you insert the key into and it will tell you if you have a "chip" key or not. They also have blanks and can program the key to match the original.
If memory serves me correctly Chrysler Corp. vehicles used two different color keys. The color being on the plastic on the key. The black key was not chipped but the brown key was. I may have this backward so a quick call to the parts department of a Chrysler dealership might be in order. While you have them on the phone, ask them for a price then check at a hardware store for comparison.

John,

I have a complete set of keys to everything on one "master" set that only leaves the coach when I go to a locksmith for duplicates. Then I have a hidden key to get me inside the coach when I have locked myself out.

I also split up the keys that I use daily so they won't be so heavy. I have a coach set, toad set, misc locks, etc. Each of those has an engraved metal tag that reads "Call for REWARD" and my cell phone number. Hopefully I will have someone find and return them before panic sets in. I'm just a little paranoid about losing keys, but as a full timer I have to be self sufficient.
