layover spot between D.C. and Maine ?

Hi folks

We are about to make a run for a few weeks into the northeast (maine) from central Florida .... does anyone have any suggestions for a good spot to spend the night between D.C. and Kennybunk port ? I am trying to avoid traffic if possible but run on 95 for bits and pieces of the trip. I am not opposed to running inland if you have suggestions ..
thanks in advance for your assistance.

phil

I am going to Nova Scotia in mid-August from South Carolina, so I have been researching similar routes. I plan to go up I-77, I-81, I-84 and bypass as much of the eastern seaboard as possible. My map program shows there is 111 miles difference in the routes. Some of the driving my be up and down (like Fancy Gap at the NC/VA line), but the scenery will be good. I need to plan my start to avoid the Charlotte, NC rush hour.

Not sure of your timetable or how many miles a day you wish to go...
Seems you are going to DC....if so take 95 to 695 to 83 to Harrisburg,Pa to 81....then you have quite a few options on how to head to Maine
can stay on 81 to 84 in Scranton staying at Mohegan Sun Casino in Willes-Barre...taking 84 into mass and 90
Can go 81 to 78 to 287 to 87 north to 84,staying in Kutztown,Pa @ Pine Hill C/G
can go 81 to 78 to rt 22 to rt 33 to 80 to 209 thru the Poconos thru the Deleware Water gap.....staying at say Tri-State C/G at 209 and 84....

thanks for the info !
I am trying to make it from D.C. to Kennybunkport in 2 days hopefully... GPS says its 8 hour or so but we all know that's not realistic in an Rv with a tow vehicle at least not for me LOL. So I would like to split the trip into two days what ever that works out to.
Thanks for the campground info that helps alot! there are so many its hard to know what really works for a quick night.

Thanks everyone !!!

any other suggestion are much appreciated !!!
