Some tots just own the moment, and know what they’re doing.
And so does the dog!

What would happen when another dog became aggressive? Who winds up in the middle?

This is about as cute as a kid playing with a loaded gun.

No, you are going overboard. He just said he is right behind her, she is protected, not on her own.

I'm reminded of those cartoons where the dog is running and the owner is flying through the air horizontally behind it...

It depends on how confident you are in a dog.

One of our dogs (bull mastiff), which was highly trained and obedient, could not resist a squirrels. I was not a match for her strength if she got an urge. My wife would not let anybody else walk her. But the dog would have taken a bullet to protect her.

Another large breed was very docile and my wife could trust her with her great niece.

So it depends, but it requires an owner that understands and have knowledge. My wife is a Vet Tech and trained in behavior modification. So it depends.

Plus the parents send the kids out to walk the dog and no poop bags and the kid has not been told to pick up the poop. The kids also take the dogs into the play ground area to do their business.

Parents need to be parents and tell your kids.

You could trust her, but what about other people who didnt know how trustworthy the dog is?

I don't understand the issue. If I trust my dog to not pull a little kid (I don't) what does it matter to you? If you don't trust my dog, stay away from the dog and kid.

We see this quite a bit in campgrounds, including this weekend. I’ll admit that my dogs are ill-behaved on a leash when there are other dogs. A young kid was having trouble controlling there aggressive dog and it was hard to keep them apart because the kid could not control his dogs advancing. I could back mine up, but barely faster then the other dog. The kid’s dad was 50 feet or so away and came running.

I try and plan my walks accordingly but can’t always account for every scenario. We have tried professional training to no avail. The alpha dog (American Eskimo) is the worst by far. The cairn terrier is great when by himself but joins in the craziness when he’s with the Esky.
