Liver transplant
Well, it happened. Got a call from OHSU in Portland OR at 7:45 July 4th that a liver might become available and to get there ASAP.
We were about 70 miles away up near MT St. Helens with all seven cats. Loaded the cats into the car and went home, leaving the MH at the campground, dropped the cats off and got to the hospital by about 10:30 AM.
There were two people "in line" for that liver and my wife got it!!
They started surgery about 10:30 PM and finished up about 6:30 AM.
Still in ICU as there is too much swelling in her throat to remove the breathing tube.
So far all the signs point to the liver starting to function!

No, there were two in line and it was equal at that point. No idea what the difference was that made them select her. All we know is that liver came from a younger person and larger since the liver almost wouldn't fit.
One of the criteria is the blood type and hers is B+. That's what put her near the top as they go by need as well as blood type and B+ is rare enough that there aren't many out there and not as many needed.
We are still amazed that it came so soon! She made the national list on Sept 23rd, then they changed the "scoring" system so liver cancer patients scored lower. On June 23rd they went to the new system and she went from a 10 to 28. Normally OHSU sees transplants at 34 or so and she made it at 28!
But, sadly, someone had to die for her to get a liver.

My mom received her donor kidney 13 years ago and she remembers that unknown person in her prayers to this day

Wishing you and the wife all the best.
Here's hoping for a speedy recovery. OHSU is a great hospital, just don't get lost. In case you didn't know, OHSU does have RV hookups for families of patients. Have a friend that spent a couple of months there and her husband stayed in a MH at the hospital.
Fingers crossed and prayers being sent.
Kaye

That's really great and now one less thing for you to worry about. Now to get out of ICU and back to Livin' the Dream. All the best to you and yours!
