Locking Your RV
So far we have owned this RV for about 2 weeks. It is still sitting in yard till we are prepared for the trip.
Now we are looking fro the best locks on hatches, doors and tongues.
And soon as we learn more about the RV type of travel hopefully we can start answering more questions than we are asking. And give back to the nice people on this site.
Any lock suggestions will be appreciated.

A bigger lock means a thief will just use more force and cause more damage. I worked for years in schools that locked the main doors but left interior doors unlocked to prevent having to replace all interior doors --- again.

If they use 751 keys, re-key them.

Same applies for things like locking gas caps. I worked for a retirement facility that has their own 12 passenger bus with a locking gas cap. Twice the thieves cut the rubber hose to the gas tank and siphoned gas out. Cost more to repair the damage than the gas was worth.

Lots to think about and all makes sense to me. We watched a video about how fast locks can be hacked, pun intended. Some more so than others.
At same time crime is rising and we want to be as safe as possible. Surge protectors and water regulators are two famous for being stolen by other campers. And they don't come cheap. Also it is bot uncommon for some to just take the whole TT. Guess that's where alarms may be better than locks? Don't know.

Watch this discouraging video. It pretty much corresponds with most of your replies.
Even this lock they can hook up chains and pull on off with all your rig.
Life is a challenge no matter what we do so happy camping. Hiding at home is not living imo.

Selling security with fear is nothing new. In fact it's practiced in all areas from politics to burglar alarms, locks, etc. You could or arm yourself even surrender.
I prefer to live my life without fear of things I have little or no control over. Before you I don't park my car unlocked on a buy street in a known crime location, I take some care. But I don't let fear run my actions.

Locks etc.. keep honest people honest, thieves will either choose something easier or will be prepared for whatever you have...

I don't know where you live or where you plan on camping. Try to stay out of areas like the south side of Chicago and probably most of St Louis, to mention a few. Basically, any area with a high crime rate should be avoided even for quick stops for a meal. The more rural the area, the more likely the crime rate will be low. Personally, I don't lock the 10 storage compartments and very rarely do I lock the M/H door. 5 years of full-time R/Ving across most of the lower 48 states and haven't had anything walk away from the rig or campsite. I do have 2 dogs and they do bark when someone is close to the R/V but I don't think that would stop someone who thought they needed your Weber grill or lawn furniture more than you do. Most important, ENJOY your camping experience!

I thought RichR had a good response. I think 751's are extremely common. With a working key, someone can quietly open a hatch. I plan on replacing mine.

Criminals are getting braver now. But I do get your point too.

Hubby was already talking about changing those 751s so thanks for pointing it out again. We will be changing those.
