I created this site to hookup for free. I have found 4 others myself for this years trip. This makes RV'ing in Mexico a bit safer or at least more reassuring. RV Buddies

When you come up against an armed group of thugs what will you do unless you have armed Mexican government escorts that are probably paid off by the drug lords anyway?
Until things settle down down there I sure won't risk it!!

I get this all the time. 1000's do it every year without incident, including myself. There are a few simple rules to follow:
do not boondock
do not travel after dark
stick to toll highways which are like interstates.
Most areas of Mexico are safe for RV'ers, the exception is Tamulaupis State in the NE & Cuidad Juarez. Nearly all violence is in Mexico is targeted, and RV'ers are not particular targets. When you look at incidents happening in the US & Canada, you are not 100% safe anywhere, especially in Hair salons & IHOP's by the looks of it. I was in Tucson not 4 blocks from where a bunch of people were blown away last Jan. A teenage girl was wasted in a Wal Mart in Washington this spring. Last summer 6 people were shot to death in a State Park near Seattle. A couple in a Class A were murdered in Alberta. If one is scared, then don't camp. Speaking for myself I did not work 30 years to spend my retirement sitting at home watching the national geographic channel.
The scariest part of my trip into Mexico each winter is traveling through LA. Both Mexico City & Guadalajara the 2 largest cities in Mexico have considerable lower murder rates than the top 40 US cities in that statistic. CJ is off the scale, so is Monterrey. Don't go there.

Folks,
Let's not turn this thread into a “Mexico is Dangerous” discussion. The OP is asking for members willing to caravan into Mexico. Let's concentrate on the route, stops, destinations, fees, preparation, etc that may be informative to those interested.
Thank you!

I'd like to RV in Mexico so I book marked your site for future use. For the time being there is much to see and do here in the US, and in Canada.

Hi, Paul
Thanks for posting!
Yours is a very informative site and while I've no immediate plans to go, it's got me thinking about it...
I certainly agree with your philosophy of not letting fear and especially incomplete information rule our lives!
In that spirit, perhaps you'll allow me to correct/clarify your assertions about recent events in my home state of Washington:
The teenage girl, a runaway from Utah, was killed in a shootout with police after her boyfriend opened fire on Police officers.
Police Identify Teen In Walmart Shooting - News Story - KIRO Seattle
And the incident at Sammamish State Park was probably the same kind of "targeted killings" you describe as unlikely to involve RVers in Mexico:
It involved rival gangs, and "only" two people were killed- 5 were injured, and six were arrested.
No suspects in Lake Sammamish State Park shooting deaths | NWCN.com Washington - Oregon - Idaho
I think it's important to note that there were no bystander injuries in either incident.
Just setting the record straight, in case you feel a need to refer to those events again in the course of your business...
Wouldn't want folks to be afraid to come to Washington State, either!
Here's wishing you the best of luck in your venture
Francesca

I have traveled into Mexico since 1994 with a pickup and camper. Mostly traveled to San Carlos, Sonora. I have driven as far south as Jalisco. I would like to say that it is fairly safe to drive into Mexico. If anyone wants to travel with me this coming fall/winter I would be interested. Remember that when traveling into Mexico that you do not have your American Rights. So, knowing that to some people may be discomforting. In some cases it is scarey. Once you get away from the boarder, the people are very nice and helpful.
