"I believe that we have been passed by Costa Rica in quality of health care delivery. Something to be proud of."

You can believe what you want but I would love to see the scientific PROOF of what you claim. I will bet you are wrong.

The same as I became the first member of my family to get a college degree. I busted the same little butt working a full time job at night and going to college to EARN a degree in Physics in 3 years. Later I left a lucrative but unfulfilling job as an engineer/physicist to go to Law School. I have never been "fortunate", I have busted my rack to accomplish what I have. No help, no government handouts, no big endowments, no inheritances until later in life.

Oh, BTW, I never graduated from High School. I had to work for what I have. And you???????

Yes fortunate! Do you really think all those that who aren't as successful as you and I don't work hard enough? If hard work were the only criteria for success we'd all be working for Mexicans. Good fortune in that you have the intelligence and competence to move up the ladder. Not everyone at the bottom is there because they're lazy, some just don't have the gifts we have. So appreciate those gifts and get over yourself. JMO

By the way, I doubt any of the jobs you've listed would come close to the manual labor I've done in my lifetime. I too worked myself to the top of my business, 14hour days 7 days a week. Still doesn't make me bitter.

Those rankings have been challanged by numerous groups and the agency that did the rankings has admitted they are not valid. The method of determining the rankings were severely flawed/biased.

To this point, they are redoing them.

Actually I would put this in the Socialist column as opposed to the bleeding heart liberal.
Who is to judge how much more I need?
We live in a country of freedom and no one gets to make that decision for me, thank the Lord!

I am I my brother's keeper? Yes, however as the old saying goes, "Give a man a fish you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and he feeds himself"

If you want to helps others, which is a noble aspiration, there are many charties you can choose.

Funding a welfare lifetsyle doesn't help anyone or this country.

OK, I've been reading this thread and reading all the opinions about taxes. If you are so kind, I want to share my opinions.

Someone said "not all people are poor because they are lazy or dumb". Right, but most all are poor because of the stupid decisions they have made. I know of quite a few lower income people who are quite smart, but have no get up and go, and I know quite a few who have get up and go, but constantly make stupid decisions.

I have a cousin who had an unbelievable talent as a brick-layer. He could have made a fortune. But, instead he would work a few days, get a paycheck and not be seen for a while, until that action cost him all he had.

One of the many problems in our society is a woman can have a bunch of children, can't work because her time is spent taking care of the children, and the worthless father is estranged, and guess who pays for that. And....those people are lower income, pay no taxes, and are supported by you-know-who.

Don't tell me that don't happen thousands of times in every city across the country.

And...some of our worthless lawmakers have such contempt for taxpayers it's unbelievable! How many $Billions do you think is wasted by "earmarks", which by any sane standards should be illegal.

Vegascpl, you talk about CEO's and their salaries, what about politicians? Politicians are far and above the biggest percentage of corrupt individuals of any occupation. At least most CEO's don't leech off taxpayers.

How many of us get our transportation to and from work paid for? Politicians do.

The FBI caught William Jefferson with $90,000 in his refrigerator and charged him with several other felonies. He's just a tip of the iceberg. If the truth was known, I would bet that 90% of them are doing things almost as bad.

Why are our tax laws so complicated? Why can't we all just pay, say 10% of our gross income with no deductions? The rich would pay more and the poor would pay less, but it would be the same percentage, and it would be simple.

It is said that most businesses pay as much or more in complying with tax laws as they do paying the actual taxes. That is insane!

Tax deductions were created as a favor for lobbiests and political donors because of the excessive high tax rate.

My answer is to lower the tax rate, eliminate deductions, and require everyone to be equal in this country. Everyone wants to be equal until being equal requires responsibility. Then, some want to be better than equal.

The great Liberal George Soros (the founder of Moveon.org), the multi-billionaire gives speeches around the country telling how the rich should be paying more taxes, has his own businesses located in Fiji.....to avoid paying taxes.

Al Gore talks about being carbon neutral, what about asking people to be Government Neutral?

Our greatest need in this country is not healthcare. Our greatest need by far in this country is to completely overhaul Congress, make them adhere to the same laws we do, require term limits, outlaw earmarks, and throw most of the bums in there now out!

To keep this country healthy, the entire House of Representatives needs to be completely turned over every 6 years or so. Career politicians should not be allowed!.

my $.02

If we go with a flat tax and no deductions, it would put a lot of folks out of work...accountants, tax attorneys, IRS workers and Software engineers, not to mention the lobbyist.
