A lot of us who got educated and then took on great jobs at even greater pay probably paid more in taxes every year than the handout recipients earned in their lifetimes. When we paid towards our retirement it really pizzes me off to hear these dinkheads say we are getting handouts. Yup it happens up here too.

I do have issue with all the government programs established to support those who feel they are entitled. Even worse they feel that it is the responsibility of others to support them. ISM = Income to Support Me

SS was not "established because the government thinks we are not competent enough to manage our own retirement". It was signed into law by F.D.R. in 1935 in the aftermath of the great depression. Most Americans had lost everything thanks to the fat cats on Wall Street. It was established as a safe and protected way to insure that Americans could retire with dignity. Entitlement programs certainly need reform but they are a necessary part of America's social contract with all Americans - no matter what race, religion, or social status. We need to learn to coexist.
