I looked up AARP policies. Here is a link to some general info on them. I have a Medicare Advantage policy so I have to live with higher co-pays when I am outside of the geographical network. But I like the advantages of this type plan much more than the occasional higher co-pay out of network.

I don't believe that there is any limitation of geographical coverage with any of the Medicare Supplement policies. Each state oversees the policies sold in their state. But, once you have it, you can go to a Dr/Hospital anyplace in the country. Down a bit in the above link are links to guides. Most states are generic info, but 3 states have some different rules and have their own guide.

A couple of years ago I did a search on the internet,you put in your info and they came up with the best supplimental policy and it is Mutual of Omaha. On Facebook I recently filled out another request and got the same insurance as being the best. Tom and I are both with them. Good luck in finding the right one for you,we don't however recommend AARP!

TRICARE for Life. It's the only one I know that you have to have earned. But, of course, then it's free for the rest of your life.

Since Medicare is good in all 50 states, any Medicare supplemental insurance (not Medicare Advantage) should also be good in all 50 states at any doctor or medical facility that accepts Medicare.

We're full-timers with our domicile in South Dakota, so my Medicare supplemental insurance is from South Dakota. I regularly go to my doctors back in my old home state of PA, and they all accept my SD supplemental. Medicare determines what's covered. Supplemental pays part or all of the deductibles depending on which plan you have.

We have AARP supplemental and Part D. They are good in all states. I almost dropped them because of their support of the health care bill which cut $575 billion out of Medicare. There are a lot of companies and a lot of plans so a lot of the decisions depend on your situation. This is especially true on the drug plans.

What insurance is AARP? AARP lends their name to some company and in itself is not an insurance company. I assume they probably use the Hartford Insurance plan. Someone correct this if not true.

Secure Horizons by United Healthcare for one. Don't know if they sell other plans.

Thanks for info wthomas1. Didn't know who AARP endorsed for supplements medical. I know they use Hartford for auto insurance. I can get auto insurance without using AARP name and get same discount. Go figure.

Get a Enhanced Medicare Supplement Plan F and a good Part D plan (for prescriptions) and be done with it. Plan F is the best plan for the money and will give you the coverage that you need except for prescription drugs (that's what the Part D plan is for). You will need to look at what drugs you are taking and just make sure that the Part D plan that you are looking at will cover it. Just remember that that ALL DRUGS are NOT COVERED by ALL PART D PLANS. Some plans will cover more drugs and some plans will cover less. Do your homework (or have your agent do it) and then pick the plan that's best for you.

This is good advice. Medicare Plan F supplemental is good coverage for the money. There is also a high deductible Plan F that pays less on the bottom end, but it costs less.

For prescription coverage, you can go onto the Medicare web site and create a list of your prescriptions. It's a little time consuming to do, but you can then plug that list into any available drug plan and it will calculate your total costs the year (premiums, deductibles, and co-pays).
