Merging traffic

My toad is limited to 65mph so I usually run in the right hand lane. Coming north from Florida I had this happen to me:
Several cars were coming up the on-ramp so I switched to the center lane. I turned my signal to move back over and one of the cars I graciously let in wouldn't let me back in. It ran next to me for several mile until it took an exit ramp.
Thoughts or suggestions on this for the future, what do you do?

Then just stay in that lane until you can move back over safety.

What else you going to do........
Run the other car off the road? Get into a drag race with them? Slow way down and impede the flow of traffic behind you?

Slow down a little and let them get ahead of you, then move over.

I run in the center, or whatever one lane in from right is, in urban areas. Contantly trying to get back and forth is more hazardous. Not to mention that many right lanes turn into exit only lanes and often the motoring public won't hear of letting you over. Urban areas have slower speed limits so you really aren't holding anyone up. Better to keep one lane at constant speed than weaving back and forth in the name of "courtesy".

Always proceed with caution with on ramps on your right side -- I see this all of the time. If you can't pull in another lane just drive your lane. They will get off their cell phones and stop texting if they want to merge !

I did slow down, so did the car. I also tried pulling ahead, so they sped up.

In that case stay put where you are. You can't control their behavior so just stay in your lane and keep driving. The only issue is if you have to get into the right lane to exit the highway. Then you have little choice but to slow down with your right turn signal on, and hope somebody lets you in.

I don't change back unless I have to.
I find it difficult when the car beside you starts pacing you (left or right side). They may not even realize it and they likely do it to trucks as well. (actually spoke to one person who says he does it to drive in the shade on a hot day)
when I do I put on my signal and move close er to the edge of the lane or hog the line.
I equipped my coach with halogen docking lights at the bottom of each mirror. If they don't move then I flash on the docking light on that side briefly.
I wish I had a triple train horn.

This situation along with the merging drivers who feel it's proper to try and merge into freeway traffic at 45 mph instead of accelerating to the speed limit. When you can't change lanes due to traffic AND there is ample space in front of you for them to merge into .
I just returned to Canada up I-5 and JMHO less than 20% of drivers know how to merge correctly into freeway traffic , this statistic prompted my purchase of a dash cam. I know that if I'm in an accident there is a 95% chance it will be with one of these a......s. There is another item I'm considering ; a sign under my side marker signal on the coach , that says , smile your on camera, maybe if these know you can get their license # and report them , they'll start driving like they should.

Before I retired, one of the guys I worked with was the real life Micheal Scott from the TV show, 'The Office'. Half ton truck that he drove like he was the only one on the road. He picked up a used ski boat that he drove from one side of LA to other to get home. He had never towed before. First thing he said to me was that evryone on the road was an idiot & that everyone should be made to tow a boat as part of getting their driver's license. I heard in his declaration an acknowledgment of stuff he had unknowingly done to other boaters in the past. Wherever we are in the U.S., we see people driving irresponsibly. I certainly try to explain to them the error of their ways (my wife gets pretty tired of that). Since I have Christian stickers all over everything I drive I am reminded to not run them off the road.

Here in PA there are signs, when approaching on ramps, for thru traffic to "stay in lane". Many accidents here are caused by lane changing to let a vehicle in from the on ramp.

Thru traffic should maintain their speed (neither speeding up nor slowing down) and let the merging traffic either speed up or slow down to enter the highway. This keeps the thru traffic at a constant speed.

Changing lanes, or speeding up or slowing down, creates an unsafe condition per PA State Police and the PA Dept of Highways.

Or you could use the method I see many RVers use and that is to get in the left lane and stay there until they have to get off the limited access highway or move left at every on ramp.

Just keep constant with flow of traffic speed upto your set limit with your signal on.

If traffic is backing up behind you and you cannot move stay put.

Highway patrol may see this and cruise up and look and often the bad guy should react and move.

That's our major complaint - driver's have no clue how to get on an interstate and they expect me to move out of their way. If it's a line of cars getting on or a semi then I'll move over. If I'm in town I'll stay in the next lane over. But every once in a while the devil in me says to stay in my lane, maintain my speed and see what happens when it's a lone idiot coming up the on-ramp thinking they're the only one on the road. It's fun to see them squirm when they realize I won't move out of their way. Law says I don't have to do anything, it's all on them to stay out of my way. And most don't know to speed up or slow down, most don't know I'm there until they're almost into my lane - it's so much of a deer-in-the-headlights thing. They'll honk at me, flip me off, you name it. Poor pathetic car drivers.
