The day we retired, 5 years ago, we told the kids, grandkids, that the bank was closed.. it has worked well so far. :-)

Just getting through reading all the replies to this thread and the wife and I
are feeling better about ourselves and our decision about the RV purchase.
We are going to clear our minds of any negative thoughts we might have had about doing our thing and enjoying traveling the country and enjoying all the great people and places on our travels. We realize it had to come from within ourselves, the final decision, but the IRV2 community has really made us better understand how others feel on the subject.
Thanks!!

Great decision IMO.
Wave as pass by. We will recognize you by the big smiles. If you happen to be in our campground - well - happy hour is at 4 down by the river.

That's to bad and kind of selfish if that's happening. You earned the money and have the right to spend it as you wish. Our kids said enjoy your lives and spend the money you have you earned it. We want nothing in the end.

Congratulations on YOUR retirement...
Speaking from a "Son" who lost his father a little over a year ago... and is currently watching his mother slowly waste away with Dementia, I know I'll never see that type of excitement in my parents ever again...
I would give all that I have.. all that I own to see that excitement again...

I have told my kids that they will inherit a miled out old motorhome when I am gone.
They are good with that.

My parents were always worried about spending their money and leaving me none. Didn't matter to us as were we doing OK ourselves and really didn't care. But then they started "helping" my son out. Ultimately they gave him about $250,000 over a 10 year period and he still went bankrupt.
Would have been nice to have been able to keep them in a nicer care facility and pay off their debts rather than put up with the collection agencies for several years.
But, it was THEIR money to do with as they wanted and I never worried about it.
Our "problem" is that we have a rather large annuity that we take 5% of every year. That amount never touches the principal so the original amount will be left. There is no way we intend to leave it to my son so we'll pick a charity to leave it all to I guess.

it's your kids and you raised them so you know more about them than anyone here. I still say your best bet is the next time you get the weird feeling from them is to bring it up and get it all out on the table. Find out the reasons they object. It may not be money related at all.....it may be more they worry about you being far away from them and something happening to you guys or something. Give your kids the benefit of the doubt. I know I would with my kids but I would also have zero problems reminding them that they're my kids and no matter what their age I still run the show.
