Motor Home Fire at Flying J
I just saw this and I don't know if any one posted previously. Sorry if it is a duplicate.

This is actually probably over a year old now. This happened at the Flying-J at the top of one of the steepest grades in California where motorhome fires happen ALL the time. I have seen the longer version of this and even though it appears to be a fire up front, it started in the rear; it's probably an engine fire...
This was also what prompted me to install an automatic AFFF fire suppression system over the fuel rail on the CAT

Must be old. At the end you can see that gas is $3.01 and diesel is $3.22!

I wonder why he didn't unhook the toad. It would be bad enough to lose the RV, but now you wouldn't have anyway to get home.

I know of a guy that lost his motorhome when the toad caught fire. He had every pin, chain, cable locked so no one could steal it. Only problem, he didn't have time to unlock everything before the coach caught fire.

Sometimes it's difficult to get the hitch pins out if you're in a hurry.
Sure am glad I picked up a couple of these for the toad.
Most industrial supply stores carry them.

I still use the old ball and hitch. Just unlatch it and one good jerk and your off and outta there.

Why risk your life to save your toad. To unhook toad you are standing very close to your engine.

I once read the vast majority of RV fires are MH's, and of those, the vast majority are engine compartment fires. Jeff is pro-active with his automatic extinguisher in the engine compartment.

That one I can answer.... I have seen lesser emergencies many times where a person will stand there screaming "Oh what do I do, Oh What do I do?" or words... Of course 9 times out of 10, what to do is obvious to a 3rd party (IE: YOU) and I'm trained to be that 3rd party even if it's my ____ that is involved (You can fill in the blank many ways).. I've talked wiht folks who have training not far removed from mine, but it tends to desert you when it is your ______.
I'm not soure how I'd react. So far, on lesser stuff. My training has held.
But most people, Just freeze.
lso... Most folks what they know of vehicle fires comes from Hollywood.
In hollywood, a vehicle catches fire, Gas or Diesel don't matter, KABOOM it blows up. ... Real life, Explosions are kind of rare.

I have been to dozens of car fires and what scares me is when a tire blows. I don't ever recall where I have seen a vehicle blow up. As we all can see in the U-Tube motorhomes burn very well.
