Motor home sold

For a couple of months I tried to sell my motor home via Craig's List, ads in local paper, and ads in various forums.
Had a couple of nibbles but no offers. Put it on consignment with a large local dealer and he sold it in less than a month.

It's a little bittersweet - we lived in it full time for 10 years - but also a relief plus no more depreciation.
The buyers picked it up from the dealer Saturday.

The good news:
I canceled the insurance policy and will not renew the Good Sam roadside assistance.
Today insured the car with the same company that insures the house and saved some significant dollars there. Even though the car was bundled with my Good Sam (National General) motor home policy the car costs less and my overall insurance costs are quite a bit less now.

So - some good and some bad - but it's right for us at this stage of our lives.

We're heading down that same road here in a month or so. Plan on doing some overseas travel while we still can. Gonna miss being on the road.

We will look for seeing your post in about 12 months where you are looking into purchasing another motor home!

Clay L. Sir, if I may ask, were you happy with what you got from the sale of your MH? Did you take much of a loss over what you might have gotten selling it on your own? One last question, what was the % rate that they charged you for selling the rig? Thank You and if you choose to answer any of my questions, you can PM me the answers if it will make it better for ya. Congrats on your future adventures!

I got about halfway between NADA average and low retail. The dealer charged 10 % and handled the financing. He included it in his advertising which includes regional newspapers. He is one of the few (in my experience) dealers that cleans the RVs up. He charges you a fee for doing that. We had already paid someone to clean it thoroughly and spiff it up so we did not get that charge.
I might have been able to get a little more selling it myself but after two months of trying on Craigs List, the local paper, and several forums I had no luck. The dealer sold it in about a month. It was continuing to depreciate while sitting in our side yard and another winter/year would have dropped the price a $1000 or more so I am happy with what we got.

If I may butt in. We just sold our fifth wheel through a consignment dealer. They asked us what we wanted for it gave them a price and when it was sold 60 days later they gave us our asking price and they kept what ever they got above that.
They handled all the paper work they just called us and we went and picked up our check. Really a nice way to sell it. Not having to deal with people not showing up and no storage fee.

It is always sad to see RVers pull the RV plug because it does remind us that some day we will have the same choice if we live long and healthy enough to make it on our own. Best wishes on your next chapter and enjoy your future travels.
